This is another way to correct excessive end shake. Requires machining abilities but isn’t too complicated. Looks like Hamilton is currently sold out though

This was, at one time, Robb Barnes' "placeholder" for his Dustin gun during his quest for examples from all the top smiths. He let it go when he saw significant progress on the gun he had commissioned with Dustin. Seems like he is supposed to get his gun this summer. Maybe he'll comment, but...
I bought this from Aggie01 a couple of years back. It’s time for it to find a place in someone else’s safe. Rather than recreate the wheel, I have cut and pasted John’s description of the gun. He had it built, so he does a better job than I could.

Here’s a picture of the tip of the loading gate spring where it sits against the gate. As Hondo says, it can slip up over onto the gate. Sometimes you can persuade it back into the right position with a push with a non-marring tool (wooden stick).
Also, pull the base pin, spray the spring loaded tip with cleaner, work the pin a bit, spray again, dry then lightly oil the pin. Sometimes it gums up and doesn’t push back on the transfer bar.
