    RUGER P89 QUESTION

Newer P89 magazines come with larger polymer basepad. I'm pretty sure they're easily available at the Shop Ruger site. The appearances of the P85/P89s are a bit deceptive; the ergos, particularly on the mid-to-late production cycle P89s with their redesigned safety/decocker levers are...

    SecuritySix rear sight

The Security Six uses the same rear sight as current Ruger revolvers. Call Ruger and discuss; it's a drop in replacement, and the new ones will have a white outline rear blade. Best, Jon

P85 ...... brass sometimes ejected into my face

Your ejector, rather than the extractor may be what needs some slight tuning. You can always send the gun to Ruger (ideally with all magazines), and they'll likely diagnose and repair at little to no charge, but call them first to get authorization. Best, Jon

The best of Rugers older model 9mm's

The later-production, product-improved P89, in my opinion (and personal experience). Best, Jon

    Security Six vs. GP100 ??

Nice Security Six, and those are some great grips-what/whose are they? Best, Jon

    Security Six vs. GP100 ??

I have both; a blued 4" GP100 that has had a significant amount of custom work on-most of it subtle, but greatly enhancing the GP both operationally and aesthetically, and a 4" Stainless steel 1978-vintage Security Six, which I bought used, and has been the recipient of a superb action job by...

    Stainless Blackhawk 357?????

Mine's a 1979 vintage one, further gunsmithed by Ruger after I got it. It's a magnificent gun, and I plan on deer hunting with it this fall. I really like the .44 Magnum frame with these stainless .357 Blackhawks. If you go with the simile of all Rugers being tanks, this one must be a King...

Heads up--'nother run of non catalogued SP's at Davidsons.

It certainly would make an excellent gun for IDPA's Back-Up Gun (BUG) division...especially if you like .38 Special vs. .357 Magnum. Best, Jon

Speed Six Grips interchangeable with Security Six?

The late Jacques Trausch was good enough to modify several pairs of his Service-Six (round butt) grips for my square butt Security Six, basically carving out the backstrap portion of the grip to allow for the square butt; the actual frame protrusion is slight, and does not affect shooting...

    P-85 spring tension question.

According to Coffeepot, the OEM P85/P89 recoil spring was literally designed to be a "lifetime" spring-my interpretation is that it should be good for some 10K - 20K rounds of use, if not more. Best, Jon

Absolute CRAP ammo. Perfecta (9mm.) Runs good now!

I've been very pleased with ATK/Federal Champion Aluminum cased 115gr ball 9mm, which Walmart sells for about $10 'Murrican per box.... (and the similar AK/Federal Champion .45 ACP 230 gr Aluminum cased ball, which goes for $15....) Best, Jon

    P89 underated

I have a late-production (August 2007) P89 that literally shoots 1" to 1.5" groups at 15 yards (and probably further, but that was the test/zeroing distance). It is an exceptionally accurate, reliable and durable pistol. Mine is used for carry and IDPA; in my 2014 IDPA year, I used it as my...

    IWB Holster for Service Six

I had Blade-Tech make me one of their kydex IWBs for my 4" Security Six some years ago; it's performed beautifully for carry and IDPA. My finish is stainless, so I had few worries regarding finish wear from the gun clashing against the kydex during holstering and drawing. For a blued...

    Ruger pistol service for P85?

P85/P89s are pretty tough guns-not much of significance normally goes wrong with them. Their components are designed around a minimum 20K round life expectancy, including the recoil spring. That said, it still might be worthwhile to simply call Ruger and ask the question. They might still be...
