Question for those with Lyman dies

Hah! I finally found it. Someone else had the same thoughts that I did. He found that Redding dies are threaded the same internally so that all the stems can interchange. He did EXACTLY what I am proposing and it works. Take a read, about 1/2 way down you'll find the specific post...

Question for those with Lyman dies

Thank you. What you say about the seat/crimp die makes perfect sense. Last thought: Since the seat stem and expander stem have different threads where they mate to the die bodies, I wonder if the seater stem (lower portion) will unscrew from the threaded top of the seat stem and then re-screw...

Question for those with Lyman dies

Interesting. So it would appear that the expander die body is a universal die body across all calibers as is the upper part of the expander stem (threaded portion). It's just the lower part of the expander stem that is specific to the caliber. This would mean that the expander die body would...

Question for those with Lyman dies

Thanks for the help. So, it appears that it may work. I guess if the inside of the expander die is close to the diameter of the inside of the seat die then it should work well. Would you agree? I guess the next step will be to buy a set and try it. Thanks.

Question for those with Lyman dies

Figures! Now why on earth would they do that? Seems to me that they could have saved on tooling costs to have the die bodies be threaded alike; oh well. Now, in looking at your old Lyman .44 dies, since the threads won't allow interchange of the stems, do you think that the expander die and it's...

Question for those with Lyman dies

Thanks for the effort anyway, I appreciate it. Since I am uncertain that this would work out, I may just buy an older (cheaper) set off Ebay to try. I'd actually be interested in how the older 357 set works? Do the expander and seat stems interchange? (or is that the one you're missing?)

Question for those with Lyman dies

I am in need of a set of .44 mag dies. I use an 8 position progressive, my stations are: 1) casefeed 2) size/decap. 3) swage primer pocket 4) flare (built into the press) and prime 5) powder drop 6) powder check die 7) seat 8) crimp Because the expander is built into the tool head, I don't...

OM Blackhawk .30 carbine in 4 5/8 inch?

Anyone care to throw out a ballpark value? Does it have ANY collector value? I mean 3xx and unconverted, unusual caliber, 98% bluing BUT non original cut barrel.

OM Blackhawk .30 carbine in 4 5/8 inch?

3xx So, I guess it has had a barrel replacement. The gun looks like it's never been messed with. Looks like any other 98% OM in 4 5/8, I guess the gunsmith did a good job, but I suppose collector value is now nil. Yes, one could have a correct vintage 7 1/2 in barrel put back on it, but the...

OM Blackhawk .30 carbine in 4 5/8 inch?

Was this critter ever produced in this configuration by the factory? I have the opportunity to buy a 98% 3 digit (1968) OM Blackhawk in .30 carbine. Not sure I am in love with the caliber, but I always wanted a 3-screw, this gun is local and in great shape (unconverted). But, the barrel is 4 5/8...
