    Garrett .454 Casull/.45 Colt

I moved to Prince George in 1964 sonny boy, so am pretty up to speed on gun law up there. Also lived in Kamloops from 79 to 88 except for a year in Valemount BC learning to build with logs. I doubt you were around in '64 but just where HAVE you lived in BC? I know the whole province pretty good...

    Garrett .454 Casull/.45 Colt

E-mai today from Ashley Emerson, the new owner of Garrett: I have the following loads fully tested and they should be on our website in 10 - 15 days (time frame depends a lot on our web guys schedule). All velocities are from factory 7-1/2"revolvers; 1. 45LFR +P (large frame revolver)...

    Garrett .454 Casull/.45 Colt

Think you know everything?.....This was long before gun control took hold up there. In those days (the 60's), you could even take firearms back and forth across the border, and nobody batted an eye. When we were fishing, everybody brought a couple shotguns, and we would leave them sitting...

    Garrett .454 Casull/.45 Colt

Another story.... A buddy was deer hunting, with a .308. He scurried down a brushy hillside and landed on a fire road, where he found himself between a mother black bear and two cubs. She charged him, and he unloaded 3 rounds in her chest before she went down! Admmitedly, he was expecting...

    Garrett .454 Casull/.45 Colt

Uh.....I don't think anyone would disputing the game taking abilities of the venerable .30-06. What I am pointing out is that a huge long heavy rifle makes a miserable CQC weapon, especially in the confined spaces of a hallway.

    Garrett .454 Casull/.45 Colt

All my life, everywhere I have lived (including SE Alaska and British Columbia), has always had bears. Fortunately, never had to shoot one myself. Currently, my local mountains are absolutely loaded with black bears! They are so accustomed to humans, that they behave more like stray dogs...

    Ideal .44 Mag Meplat Diameter

When I was in college, I worked for the medical examiner in a large and populous southwestern county. Later in my career, I also taught human anatomy and physiology. This was just before the revolver days for local law enforcement came to an end, and just before the revolver was replaced by...

    Garrett .454 Casull/.45 Colt

In a conversation yesterday with Ashley Emerson of Garrett Cartridges, he said they will be coming out shortly with .454 and .45 ammo. As a fan of their Hammerhead bullets, I find this to be great news! The advantage of the Hammerheads is that they are hand cast, and a very hard alloy...

    Ideal .44 Mag Meplat Diameter

The way I see it.....if you took a .44 cal. ~300 gr. LBT bullet, put it on a lathe and shaved off ~45 gr. from the front end....you end up with a 255 gr. Keith bullet. When you consider that this decreases meplate diameter and moves the center of mass from the front of the bullet more toward...

    Ideal .44 Mag Meplat Diameter

Well, Garrett has no Keith bullets, and Buffalo Bore has only one in .44, so I think that says something???? I picked up some of these to try out ( https://www.buffalobore.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=55 ), as well as ( https://www.buffalobore.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=291 )...

Who Would Like to See Hogue "Tamer" Grips for SP101

Sadly, NOT available as a "Tamer" Monogrip for the SP. That is what my whole post was originally about. If enough folks request them, maybe Ruger will get the notion. You can use this form: https://www.ruger.com/dataProcess/tellTheCEO.html I pulled the aftermarket "Monogrips" described...

Who's shot lots of Hornady 357 Critical Defense? Experience?

The 140 gr. Hornady FTX is a "LEVERRevolution" round, which is not the same as a "Critical Defense" FTX round. My guess is, that Hornady is expecting most folks to be firing this round from a CARBINE (at something like 1850 fps.), and not a short little handgun.....

    Ideal .44 Mag Meplat Diameter

http://www.garrettcartridges.com/garrett44mag.html Garrett for one, seems to have settled on .320" as the ideal meplate diameter, for the .44. Go larger or smaller, and you will see decreased penetration. Looking around, it would seem that Federal's 300 gr, CastCore has a diameter...

What is your favorite woods walking gun?

I live at the base of a large mountain range. The lowland valley and foothills aren't really bear habitat, but there are mountain lions. You said "walking", so for me that means keeping it ultralight, and a short barrel! That's an 11.4 oz. S&W 360PD, stoked with .357 Mag. Hornady 140 gr...
