    (Possibly) obscure finish question

I am SO sorry I accidentally capitalized the "M" in "model" and upset one of the nomenclature police. Is there a difference in polished finish between any models of stainless Vaquero? If not, would it matter if I "misgendered" this one anyway? Were you going to offer helpful advice, or just try...

    (Possibly) obscure finish question

Yeah, the Feds like to say there are no griz in the Big Horns, but I know too many ranchers who have said they've definitely made their way to the western slope, and every guide I know has said if you shoot a deer or elk even well east of Cody, the gunshot's like a dinner bell for old horribilis.

Awesome...that's what I've been looking for. Thanks, partner!

"The Mighty Stopping Power of a 1911"

Tooooooo funny! 😆 Gramps was in WWII and told me about how he saw a Japanese soldier running up a slope get shot in the heel with a 45 and drop dead. "Of course," he said, "the two or three rounds of 50 BMG from a Ma Deuce that caught him at the same time might have contributed a little...."

    (Possibly) obscure finish question

So I convinced my mom to bid on a NIB Oglesby-tuned New Vaquero 45 Colt a while back during a live auction of a friend's estate sale. She won, and got a fantastic deal on a 4 5/8" polished stainless pistol with a slick action. I loaded up some anti-bruin loads for it with book max (for Colt &...

Saw this and had to laugh!!!!!

Not exactly a new idea...possibles bags have been around since the 1700s. Although they weren't practical for the large pistols of the time, small screw-barrels and other compact handguns were occasionally carried in them, as well as the "EDC" gear of the day.

38 SPL carry opinions or recommendations.

I have shot a bunch of snubbies over the last 40 years, and I like my LCR better than anything but the SP101. The LCR has an excellent trigger out of the box, carries nice due to no sharp edges, points well for me, and accuracy is quite good with loads it likes. I also get higher velocities with...

New from Ruger: LC Carbine chambered in .45 ACP.

Oooohhh...may have to get my 9mm PC Carbine a friend in 2024. 45 ACP from a carbine is stout stuff indeed. It performed quite well in every theater of WWII.

Light Reloads: Ruger PC 9mm Carbine?

I run a very mild load from mine; 3.6 Titegroup with a 124 grain Berry's Hybrid. Gun functions 100%, and groups are around a half inch at 25 yards. I suspect your load will work, but as others have mentioned, be aware of the possibility of a bullet failing to exit the barrel and don't go...

    New to me Birdshead

Very cool! Might try a 230-235 grain cast (flat base, fairly soft alloy like the ones from Rimrock or Desperado) in front of 3.6 grains of Clays if you can get that powder. Economical and accurate in most firearms I've tried it through. A load that is nearly as good in my experience is 4.0...

Ruger Redhawk .45 LC/Auto cylinder swap with 454 Casull?

Ruger-level 45 Colt loads using 300+ grain bullets with wide meplats are substantially more capable than the 44 Magnum, and it's what I carried in a Sheriff model Vaquero with Birdshead grips before I got my Alaskan. I spend time in grizzly country, and never felt undergunned (although I prefer...

    Question on safety

Standard SAAMI-spec ammo is fine in the Uberti, but of course the "Ruger-level" or +P loads are no bueno. (I got a Model 92 to go with my Ruger Vaqueros so I didn't have to worry if I put one of my stout handloads in the rifle...the 92 is capable of handling 44 Mag and 454 Casull.)

Any plans on a gun purchase in January 2024

If Ruglin would bring out a 327 Federal chambered rifle, or a 45-70 with a barrel longer than 20 inches, I'd dip into the piggy bank. And I'll probably get an olive drab KelTec P-17 to go with my black one. I mean, I have two hands, right?

Range Report: New Marlin 1894 .44

Did you field strip, clean, and lube the rifle prior to shooting it? I have had more than a few guns that came new from the factory with machining oil and debris left in them, or loaded up with preservative grease (which don't actually lube anything). Any of that is enough to cause the tightly...

Too much scope for a 10/22?

My opinion (and worth exactly what you paid for it) is that a rimfire that will be used strictly as a hunting implement and will be carried afield a lot is best served with a small, light, fixed-objective scope of modest magnification. I have a 2-7X32mm Nikon Monarch on my CZ452 for wabbit and...
