Thank you Bob, I did feel a little embarrassed. My bro in law handed me the gun, told me it was a 243. I bought ammo and you know the rest. I'm actually happy that it's a 260. because I'm hoping for my daughter to use it on a upcoming cow elk hunt. We will see. Id rather her shoot my 270...
Ok just spoke to my bro in law.. The priest brother (who passed) was a gunsmith!
Im guessing Ranger Bob is correct and he re barreled his own gun to 6.5, stamped it and never stamped out the 243?
In any case I'm bringing it to the gunsmith for probable casting..

You know now that I zoomed in on the photo and it looks like the 6.5 x was stamped in at a different time because the inlay does not match the 243 numbers! hmmm.
My brother inlaw got this from a priest btw for 150!

It says Sturm Ruger & Co. on the Barrel. and 6.5 followed by a symbol that looks like an x then 243.. so it reads 6.5x243
