    Following up on "old powder"

I have some older load manuals. I like the technical articles and information, but don't use the load data unless I happen to have powder that old. Historically speaking, I shoot far too much to ever have old powder. However, I 'retired' from competitive shooting a few years ago, and so now...

    Old powder

The Brits (military) surplus or destroy double-base powder after 20 years, regardless any testing. Single-base they keep for 40 or 45 years, last I saw. I've seen figures for the US Military in open sources, but I can't seem to find the figures at the moment. I wouldn't keep stuff much longer...

    Mini-14 brass sidewall damage

Mine dents most every case mouth it ejects. Some of the bodies are dented, too. I get far fewer body dents since I put a smaller gas port bushing in (reduced gas to the operating system). It still dents most case mouths, though.

.32 H&R magnum as a self defense round?

https://www.luckygunner.com/labs/pocket-pistol-caliber-gel-test-results/#32HRMag I like the 32 H&R. It's a great cartridge. There's not very much factory ammo I'd rely on for self-defense, it turns out, if I had an LCR or other snubby. I didn't know that back when I was actively searching...

    Powder shortage

This is fake news. No fire damage to the Mulwala plant, and no production disruptions.

    SP 101 .327 pierced primers

I've fired 32 Auto, 32 S&W Long, 32 H&R Magnum, and 327 Federal Magnum factory ammunition in my SP101. I've also fired various handloads, though none loaded up to maximum 327 Fed. pressure. I _HAVE_ recently experienced pierced primers. I was shooting some 32 S&W Long lead wadcutter ammo the...

    327 federal data

Lightest weight I’ve seen pressure-tested, published data for is a 77-grain cast lead. That’s on Hodgy’s site. Brian Pearce has a ton of data in Handloader magazine from February of 2015, but there the lightest bullet is a 78-grain cast. If it was me, I’d start with that data.

    Flash Suppressed powders

Yes. I fixed it. Sorry for the confusion.

    Flash Suppressed powders

FYI, I was mistaken about Silhouette. I had read that in a magazine some years ago, but Western Powders say that is incorrect. Only 11FS from Ramshot or Accurate have a flash suppressant in them. Others are low flash signature, which is not as low-flash as an acutal flash-suppressed powder.

    Ruger No.1 Scope Ring question.

I've used one and I've used two. It depends a lot on the specific scope and how & where you need it mounted for comfort. Another option: Conetrol makes OUTSTANDING rings and a cantilever-looking steel mount for many No.1 rifles. I have that combo on my 1B and I love how it looks and mounts...

    Flash Suppressed powders

Ramshot Silhouette is flash-suppressed. Does that work in the 38 Special? If it was me, I’d call the powder vendors and ask them which of their suitable offerings are flash-suppressed, and work it from there.

    Ruger No.1 Scope Ring question.

I prefer Ruger's rings if I'm attaching to the Ruger base. You're right that Ruger now only has offset rings in medium height and blued steel. I think you could easily mount that scope on that gun with lows, but only you know whether you would be comfortable trying to put your head down that...

    RUGER MINI 14 RINGS??

Mini-14s use the exact same rings as Ruger's M77 MkII and Hawkeye, EXCEPT that the Mini uses two rings of the same height, whereas the 77s use two different ring heights. So, as said, if your two rings are the same height, they're a 'set' (or two individuals; same thing) for the Mini-14 or the...
