they are nothing but M16A1 sights and so need the double-ended spanner, or simply the tip of a 5.56 round or suitable sub to depress the plunger and turn the post or wheel
yes, it did!....but i learned a tonne in regards to my gun...which as an FYI now wears like new walnut stocks and looks much the better for it...thanks again to all the posters who filled in with such a tremendous amount of info....
The charm of the cartridge to me is in simply duplicating the performance of original early BP loads getting a 250gr bullet to about 1000fps....it needs no expansion being almost 1/2" across, and the penetration is more than adequate for all but the largest and most dangerous of game....and that...
only a little tech info correction on the DOA guns, especially the late ones like mine....the hammer has nothing to do with it, including the statement that the cocking notch was removed on later ones...I tried installing a normal hammer in the gun to see what it would do in SA fire, and just...
YES, we'd all feel much better if he told the truth and saved our good name, and I'm sure he wouldn't mind prison for that worthy goal.......
Seriously, legal aspects of handloads depend entirely on area lived in...and political climate....where I live, nobody would care in the slightest where...
This was sold to me by Joe Salter/Down East Antiques, represented as a NYPD gun for police collectors, and set me back $325, compared to the $260 I gave for my girlfriend's standard Police Service Six stainless 4" light barrel....I sorta figured I was giving on the high side for a shooter-grade...
Just an update of sorts on my gun showing up and contrasting it with my girlfriend's earlier gun....aside from my NYPD gun having the DA-only hammer, being a later gun also is the HB version, as opposed to the tapered barrel on the early gun...also note the cylinder arbor boss is larger diameter...
Mr. Blue Brick, I'd thought to post a pic of my girlfriend's gun, but since yours is an exact duplicate down to the Presentation grips, why bother? And UPS 2nd Day Air ship now looks like 5 Day Air ship with my gun not showing up on time, so I'll have to satisfy Independence Day fireworks urges...
I have thorughly enjoyed all the speculation and information....my old beater should be here tomorrow...seeing as how it's mentioned here by SN, can anyone (previous owner or otherwise) tell me anymore about the gun, where it came from, etc? After all has been said and done, it would seem these...
Thanks for the welcome aboard, WMG.....I'm more the shooter than collector, and am buying this dog just to have a gun to sweat all over underneath an untucked t-shirt this summer and to save my girlfriend's gun from such an unkind fate....I had an OMBH .45 Colt with grossly undersized...
With only 300 or so authorized revolver carriers still on the NYPD 30,000 man force, and new carriers verboten, and the NYPD Service Sixes coming in at the tail end of the SS's production run, it's not like 20,000 guns are suddenly going to show up...nor did every new rookie choose a Ruger when...
Interestingly enough, while trying to find a matching 4" Service Six stainless .38 to my girlfriend's $260 gun I got for her, and having a lot of trouble finding ANYthing for under $350 currently, i stumbled across a gun advertised as an NYPD gun for under $350, a search led me to this thread...
