I just want to add that I sent my new 44spl flat top in today for the same reason. Loading trough is not wide enough for the case rim. The smaller diameter of a loaded round allowed it to load ok but the fired cases would not clear.
I figure Ruger will get it fixed up but wanted to post my issue...
I think the article you are remembering was the one Brian Pearce wrote on the then new flat top 45 convertible in Handloader magazine back several years ago.
I have the issue but am at work and will have to look later tonight for the date.
He was wishing the ACP cylinder was cut for the auto rim.

I had a similar problem with a new flat top 45 colt/ACP. Intermittently the firing pin would not retract back into the frame when releasing the trigger after firing. I could watch through the rear cyl gap while dry firing and once out of a dozen times you could see it stay forward after trigger...
I find myself carrying my small revolver in my pocket most of the time and my small pistol in a IWB holster so my first choice would be a LCR in 38+p.
BTW, with the way things are going in the world recently, it wont be long before your wife is asking you if you have your weapon with you.

Maybe the print program used to create the end label has a fixed number length and the dash was omitted to allow the numbers to shift over to make room for the "D"?

Yes, that is normal for the large frame New Model BH. The medium frame New Model BH Flattops and New Vaquero's have a mechanical wonder-gidget that aligns the chambers with the loading latch. The large frames do not have this feature. There are some threads on the board that describe the parts...
I also have the 45 FT Convertible and replaced the grips with some cheap black OEM grips I had laying around. They work much better for me and I plan on leaving them on as I shop around for some aftermarket ones that look nicer.
The white plastic ones were to slick for me.

Brian Pearce reported 1211 fps with 17gr of 2400 and a 250gr Keith bullet out of the 5.5" flat top 44special in his 2009 Handloader article. I don't think he measured them in the shorter barrel.

Most of my Ruger adjustable rear sights have some slight movement side to side. Most tend to favor a certain position and have "memory" if I push them aside and return to that position.
I would agree that it could cause an accuracy issue if it randomly moves around.
Someone will probably have a...
When I sent mine in that was what I assumed they would do. The repair order copy that came back with it did not specify what they actually did to regulate the sights. I can not see any evidence of anything looking different on the gun but it definitely shoots much better.
If I stare at it long...
I had one that shot hard to the left and a call to Ruger got me fixed up. I did make sure I had other shooters experience the same issue and it also shot left when I shot it off hand. It helped me convince Ruger that it was not just me.
They sent me a shipping label and fixed it under warranty...
Mine worked great until I ran some waxy ammo through them and then the follower started sticking.
I took them apart and cleaned them up and they have been good to go since.
They come apart pretty easily.
