    New rifle breakin

I am curious about the effect that this procedure has on the barrel. New guns, I clean the heck out of the barrel before first firing, just my habit. I do understand that most new guns have already been fired at the factory. I was wondering if the difference is measurable, broken-in vs...

    Flying with a Firearm

One mistake that has occurred is ammunition accidentally making it's way into (or being overlooked in) a traveler's carry-on baggage. Using one's actual range bag as a carry-on can cause this, as stray ammo may be hidden in the seams or padding. Or packing carelessly. Monty

    12 round .22 cylinder

This doesn't resemble a USFA 12-22 cylinder - yours seems to have recessed chambers for the .22 cartridge rims, and it's not blued. Monty

    New Bearcat & Win ammo

I had been using CCI Standard velocity ammo in a couple of my S&W's, and I experienced difficult extraction. The cases seems to expand more after firing than other brands, namely, Federal Automatch, which ejected perfectly. I like the SV ammo, but it doesn't seem to agree with some of my DA...

I returned my SP-101 .22 LR 6-shot to Ruger for Service

I'm guessing that the star on my 617 may have something to do with the expansion at the case rim, whereas any chamber in which the case is completely inserted might not have the same issues - Ruger 10/22, Mk. I, II, etc. It's had difficulty extracting since factory new. I did contact S&W, and...

I returned my SP-101 .22 LR 6-shot to Ruger for Service

How much should a .22 LR case expand after firing? And should the expansion occur equally along the case length? From the problem revolver, I've found as much as .229 near the case rim, which may be causing the problem - too-large chambers? It may need to go back to S&W... Monty

I returned my SP-101 .22 LR 6-shot to Ruger for Service

A S&W 617, 10-shot .22LR wouldn't eject after all 10 were fired. I guessed that the problem was too much expanded surface area of the fired cases (2/3 more, vs. 6-shot) or rough chambers hindering smooth extraction. Gunsmith had a go at it, said that the star had burrs or uneven edges, causing...
