Wow that's funny.
Actually, it's more of a convenience thing. I would rather grab the rifle and one mag when I go out to shoot. That's less I have to carry. It has nothing to do with hunting or being tactical.
The one that came with my daughter's rifle is a solid chunk of plastic. Even stronger than the plastic ones you get for the AR's.
Though I would love to see them offered in a higher capacity in plastic or metal.
From what I've noticed with my daughters .30-06, the far end of the fore grip is flimsy. Unless you're looking for a target range tack driver, I don't see it being an issue. I really like the butt pad, it does an excellent job of controlling the 06's recoil. The magazine is made of a solid piece...
I just learned of another advantage of the RAR. It doesn't bother me that my daughter wants to personalize it by vinyl wrapping the stock. The RAR makes a great base for cosmetic customization.
I've never handled the M77 but I don't doubt its a reliable, quality rifle. And I can't dispute that a good wood stock is a thing of beauty. That said, I did buy my daughter an American. Its a good reliable rifle that fit within my budget. I'm sure its going to serve her well for a long time...
Sighted in my daughters RAR 30-06 today. First time we shot it so I was a little concerned about the magazine issue mentioned here. Fortunately everything worked great.
Now I want one for myself.
In about a week my daughter is going to buy her first deer rifle. She decided on the RAR. She liked the bolt action, the safety, weight and the recoil pad. She kinda liked the price too (she's an 18 yr old bargain shopper). We decided on the .243. My question is, should we go with the standard...
Interesting info on the 742. My dad has 2 742's in 30-06. One of which I've used for 20+ yrs. We've never had any problems. I know of 2 others with 742's, 1 in 30-06 and 1 in .243 with no problems. That's just 4 out of however many were made.
My 18yr old daughter is buying her first deer rifle. She decided on the Ruger American Rifle in .243. She doesn't like scopes, so I was wandering if anyone is aware of affordable iron sights that can be mounted easily. Right now we're planning on a red dot, but I would prefer iron sights if...
I can't respond to your rifle question. I haven't handled either.
I just wanted to say that you have to remember, anyone can be anything on the internet. One little slip will lead people to question your claim.
