Here in central Georgia, just try finding an original "JM" 30-30 that's not selling for $1200. I've seen one of the new Ruglins and wasn't impress with the rifle overall or the price tag of $1300. I do like they're Ballard rifled instead of the old Micro groove.
Excellent project. I built a 450 Bushmaster a few years ago using a Savage Axis action. I've extrapolated lever action 45-70 data for use in the Axis bolt action and I've been able to shoot 475 grain hard cast gas checked bullets (sized from .458" to ,452") with excellent accuracy in the 1600...
I had a 1968 made Ruger 77 in 243 with a Douglas barrel, 22" sporter contour. Got the rifle in a pawn shop in 1983 for $150. That rifle would shoot inch groups at 200 yards all day with my handloads. Wish I still had it today.
