The comb on a #1 is aligned for shooting with a scope. When shooting with the iron sights it smacks my cheek bone. I sight the irons in so they are there for back up.
But the scope has never failed. I've considered cutting off the front post and removing the rear sight.
The only negative of this bullet is the extreme damage it does; blood shot meat. Keep it in the ribs and your good.
I have hunted with a .54 cal patched ball but haven't got close enough, yet. I've heard you can eat right up to the hole.
I use the standard rings on my #1's. I keep with me a stubby screw driver that I ground and filed to fit the screw slot.
I don't know the setup of the Hawkeye.
My new 270 win is shooting very well with Federal 130g power shock. When reattaching forearm I want to put the screw in exact same position. Suggestions please.
Happy Thanksgiving
I just bought 100 of them. Will use it on a deer hunt in 2018. Have used 130 tsx on elk and deer with satisfaction. Am confident the 110 ttsx will perform well on deer.
Gonna try H4350 and Hunter charges.
I got it. Nice wood, but it feels a little unprotected. I might rub some linseed oil-thinner on it. Any opinions on that?
I put a limbsaver butt pad and a Leupold M8-6x scope ( a 1980s purchase) on it and I'm waiting for a windless morning to test drive it. The scope will be good for a December...
My #1B 270 is an early 1980s model, before Ruger made there own barrels. I'm expecting a little better accuracy from the new one. Being in my 60s, I'll appreciate having one less pound to carry and the handiness of it.
