I'd recommend a grip that fits your hand, it will help your time and accuracy. Other than that, watch the experts and practice a lot. If (and I hope it doesn't) the time comes you won't remember drawing it, your focus will be on the front sight center of mass.

I'm planning on a hog hunt in SC; back up will be a Redhawk 5 1/2 in 45 Colt, warm loads and heavy bullets, warm enough to shoot well but not the hottest load.

I used to shoot IHMSA matches with a 10” Super Blackhawk; chickens at 50, pigs at 100 turkeys at 150 and rams at 200. Shoot off targets would be the 50 yard chickens at 200, they’d look like bits of fuzz on top of the front sight. Always felt good to see one of those 200 yard targets go down...

Is it just rumor or do we know the 480 Alaskan will be made again? I’ve been looking to get one once I’d developed a cast bullet load I can handle. Always looking for the next ‘best’ woods gun, which right now is a 5 ½” 45 Redhawk.

03cobraa The 5 1/2 is not as common as the 7 1/2 and is what I'm using as a 'woods' gun when I'm hunting. The price is a bit high but like it has been pointed out, no longer in production. Any wiggle room in that price?

Are you sure it's a 6 12/" barrel? Regardless, I'd jump on it for that price.

my vote is 5.5" but have not played with the newer 4".
