thanks for the quick response. Yes indeed it is brownish-red residue looking goo substance. I will clean it up first.

I will give them a call and see what they say. That spring is part of the whole recoil bar assembly so I guess I will need a new rod also.

is it normal to find rust in a brand new never fired gun in the recoil spring? Just got the sr9c ss , got it unpacked to clean the wax out and found the rod spring rusted. Should i contact ruger or just clean it and see what happens.
