I put a 4", Security-Six on layaway yesterday. Beautiful gun that may or may not have been fired (outside the factory). If it has, it hasn't been fired much. Almost no turn line, and no holster wear. Anyway, the S/N (150-223XX) falls into the 1972 range, as best I can tell. I was wondering...
Mornin'. I'm an old member, who's been away, but have wandered back (1) to get some information, and (2) show off. :)
I've recently come into possession of two Lipsey's, NMB, in 44 Special, with Bisley's grips. One in Stainless Steel, one in Blue. The Blue one has a fired cartridge case...
I've been away for a while. Thanks for saving me a seat.
I've got a 1979 Speed-Six, blue, with a 4" barrel, original style grips, on layaway at "Ali-Babba's House O Guns" my local gun pusher. Mechanically it's good, but it's been rode hard, and put up wet. Several times it seems. But it was...
I use whatever is handy. I've used Hoppes, RemOil, Break-Free, 3 in 1, motor oil, "gun oil", "reel oil", WD-40, silicone spray, Gun Scrubber...you get the idea.
Congratulations. You got a good price on that one IMHO. I paid a fair amount more for one in the same condition at a LGS not too long ago. I haven't fired mine yet, the weather is just starting to break around here, but I'm looking forward to it soon.
My wife has one of the NRA Endowment...
No, they're easy to disassemble and put back together. You just have to know how. I would think rebuilding a V-8 engine was "hard" but if you ask a NASCAR engine builder, he'd probably tell you there was nothing to it.
Speaking from just my experiece, the problem I had was not reading and...
That's a good point blume. That was the main problem I had with my very first one. Not only did the hammer not "fall" into place, I didn't know what "in place" looked like, so I didn't know it hadn't done it.
To tell you the truth, I haven't really thought about it much. They were just nice guns with a price that I thought was reasonable, but not a steal. The Single-Six is just a Single-Six. Nothing special about it, as a matter of fact, it's got a blemish on the side from rubbing on the box. The...
I picked up a couple of realy nice Ruger rimfires over the last few weeks. I'd sold off most of my guns when I was out of work for almost a year, but have gotten back on my feet, and thought I'd replace the 22's I'd sold with one revolver, and one semi.
Number 1 is a New Model, Single-Six that...
I'll guarantee you it's an ammo problem, and not the gun. I had the dreaded Thunderbolts lead my 22/45 up the same way once. When/if you're able to find some other ammo, my favorite is Federal bulk pack, which apparently is extinct now, it won't be a problem.
Contender has got it nailed. It's one of those things that you'll probably have trouble with at first, then suddenly it will all fall together and you'll wonder what the big deal was all along.
I found my trouble was the hammer never wanted to "fall" anywhere. I never thought about just...
