What fps range can be used when reloading BHN 12 158gr LSWC in 38 special or 357 magnum?

I have cast for a very long time. Most of my pistol bullets have been conventionally lubed, usually with Magma Blue. Conventional wisdom says under 1400 fps. Most of my rifle bullets have also been conventionally lubed, usually with NRA formula, Tac-1, or Tac-x. Conventional wisdom says under...

    Regular vs. Magnum Primers

Rclark did a pretty good job of explaining that some powders perform well with magnum primers while other powders perform well with standard primers. Lots of members have posted that they have had success using either standard or magnum primers with many powders on target loads. I know a number...

Price check on a Dillon 450

If you only have room to mount one press, mount it on an Inline Fabrication quick change mount. I prefer the low one. Then you can change out the press in under a minute.

Price check on a Dillon 450

I prefer the 450 to the 550. I always shim the 550 tool head to prevent it moving. When it moves that drives me crazy! Set the 450 up for a caliber you want to load a lot of and dedicate it to that caliber.

Donating brass to those who reload

Most metal recycling places nowadays won't sell scrap metal back to the public. I have been told this is because they are China connected and sell it all to China. I seem to remember hearing from my elders this didn't work out so well back when they were Japanese connected. That was pre-World...

    .45acp ammo opinions?

At one point in time I tried 165 Grain JHPs for defensive carry. I practiced with them in outdoor pistol matches and found them to need a lot of sight correction between 25 and 50 yards. I eventually disposed of the rest of the case of 165 grain ammo and replaced it with 230 Grain JHPs. Note...

Should I shoot 'em or save 'em?

Save them! They could be useful later. How much money do you save by popping them off now? How useful could it be to have some quieter rounds of lower pressure ammo later?

Red Dot on a Mark II 22 LR Pistol

I resemble that! I shot am indoor pistol league where there was only one firing point with enough light to see iron sights. The opposing team seemed intent on not letting me use that firing point. A team member loaned me a mounting rail and an Ultradot. I was hooked for life!

    Here's a Question

Some of the newer lubricants are so much better than conventional wax based lubricants that it is hard to believe. I am referring to powder coated and hi tech coated. Powder coated can be done in a roaster-toaster oven. Hi tech requires a lot more temperature control for best results. I have had...

    Here's a Question

If your lubrication fails, you can leave a ring of lead in the bore causing a partial obstruction. You can also add to the ring of lead very rapidly. A partial bore obstruction can cause a catastrophic firearm failure.

First time gun owner, recently Pardoned

First off: Welcome! I would suggest you are focusing on the wrong thing first and this could easily lead to bad outcomes such as injury or new legal issues. My suggestion would be NRA safety training first and then marksmanship training. Then self defense training would logically follow and be...

    .32 H&R Magnum

A friend wanted to teach the grandkids to shoot and 22 LR was unobtainium. He went to 22 Hornet and Bullseye. The least he could drop with his RCBS Uniflow was 1.7 grains. 1.7 grains with a 40 grain cast bullet was like shooting standard velocity 22 LR. 3.5 grains was more like 22 Mag. So about...

    Accurate 5744 powder...............

5744 is also supposed to be the "go-to" powder for cast rifle bullets.

    .32 H&R Magnum

When I find the time, I will try a Saeco 325 in 32 S&WL and 32 H&R. Win 231/HP 38 meters so well because they are ball powder.

    A question for Brass Magnet

See? It had nothing to do with burn rate! By the way, I kept forgetting to post that part of why 748 is so accurate is because it is a ball powder and it meters so well through a powder measure.
