    Ruger Frontier

I have had one in .243 for several years. I was actually bummed when Ruger came out with the Gunsite Scout because that is really the gun I wanted. I find mine very accurate, limited only by its 2.5 power Leupold scout scope. I like it because it is so easy to load and clean without the scope...

    M77 tang safety issue

I have one of those rifles. There is a hand drawn T under the handle, etched into the metal. It is not neat, almost looks like a 9 because the cross on the T is curved, perhaps a slip of the hand. Does that sound like the right proof mark?

    Ruger rifles with open sights

A few years ago I ran into an old tang safety M77 at a pawn shop. It had iron sights on an 18" barrel and a 4x scope. I bought it immediately because of the sights. I took the scope off and the gun handles SO nicely and is so nice, light and slim, I can't bring myself to remount the scope.

Ruger 77 RLS Tang Safety Calibers

I picked up one that looks just like the one pictured in .243 Winchester. I bought it because it had iron sights. Why don't they come with sights anymore? I love it because of its 18 inch barrel. It handles so well and is so light, I took off the scope. It is like a winchester 94 because it is...

Mini 14 Tactical W/ ATI stock

I mounted a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5X scope on mine. At low power, it is as quick to acquire a target as a red dot or scout scope. At high power it is all the magnification you'd ever need for hunting or defense. For your purposes, a red dot or holographic optic may be the way to go. Anything...

    So I'm think'n about buy'n a Mini 14

I have an older 196 series Ranch Rifle, one of the original style Ranches with the fold down rear sight and skinny barrel. Even using iron sights I could hit head-shot accurate at 50 yards and torso-shot accurate at 100. I discovered all rounds grouped in a size about as wide as my front sight...

Cleaning and lubing a new Mini 14??

I don't think it is EVER a bad idea to run a patch down the barrel of a new gun if for no onther reason than to ensure there isn't a bit of goo that will turn your $600 gun into a paperweight with the first shot. That's just me though and I work too hard for my money to trust some guy at Ruger's...

Bought a new Mini 14 today.....

At my range, I thought the cure for the Mini tossing shells away was to take the far right lane. Then she started hitting cars in the parking lot. I think I'm the reason they finally put up screens between stations.

    I've Re-Joined the SSS...

I picked up an old tang safety M77 on a whim a year and a half ago. It is in .243 Win. but what sold me was it has iron sights. I wish they were still an option on bolt guns these days. With its 18.5 inch barrel and slender stock it handles like a BB gun and it seems a shame to screw up that...

Cleaning and lubing a new Mini 14??

There's not much to do other than lube the moving parts and swab out the barrel with your cleaner of choice. I have never had an issue with a Mini 14 due to lack of lube. They function flawlessly even with no lube but why do that to an innocent gun?

    Evaluating new Mini-14 versus AR-15

Now that the new Mini 14 has laid to rest the accuracy issues vs the AR 15, the only real difference is the advantage of the AR's modular design. Different uppers with different barrel lengths or calibers can be swapped onto an AR 15. That is the only real advantage unless you want to get into...

    Scout Rifle

I am curious why it is not worth buying one box of factory ammo to try out in the rifle. Ruger is not going to give your complaint much creedence if you ask them for help having only tried you own reloads. The $25 price tag of a box of Remington or Federal ammo is nothing compared to blowing up...

    Mini 14 Barrel Q

The disadvantage of the thin barrel is that it heats up quickly and often the point of impact changes. The advantage is, it cools down quickly and returns to its original point of impact quickly. This is not uncommon in light hunting rifles, some of the best do it, but it is more pronounced in...

    Scout Rifle

The sight should be appropriate for the intended use. If you are going to use the gun for home defense, go with a scout scope or red dot. For hunting or long range target shooting, a standard scope will suffice. Thats the beauty of the rifle. It's the one to have if you only have one. I bought...

First Range Session with New Min-14

I really like the optic you have on that. I wanted to configure my Ranch Rifle the same way. What kind of rail is that? I assume it screws onto the integral scope mounts on the reciever.
