I sold a Hawkeye compact 7.62x39 on Gunbroker around 5 years ago with a 2-7x Leupold vx1. It went for over $1600. No box, fired, but 98% condition with some figure in the stock. I still kick myself for selling it.

I have one. It is extremely accurate, although very heavy for the caliber. There is virtually no recoil, but plenty of noise with full power 327 loads. The wood grips aren't much too look at, but I still prefer them to synthetic in a light recoiling gun.

The wrangler is illegal in mn due to the melting point of the alloy frame. Most dealers choose to ignore the law, most law enforcement isn't aware of it, and there has never been a prosecution. The tri color should be fine since aluminum is above an 800 degree melting point.

The best hunting load I have found is a 300gr Hornady XTP over 12.0gr of Blue Dot. Will shoot well under 2" at 100 yards, and drops deer with authority.

Skeet is a great choke for close range bird hunting. To me SK/SK chokes are the best to have if you have a fixed choke gun. There are some specialty loads out there that will give you tighter patterns at longer ranges in case you decide to take it on a pheasant or duck hunt.

I will give you my two cents worth, and say buy the best glass you can afford. Mini-14's eat cheap scopes like nothing else out there. The dual impulse of the gun recoiling back, then the heavy bolt and op-rod assembly slamming forward is very hard on scopes. I would stick with Leupold or...
