No matter how shiny and tuned with fancy engraving on it the SP101 is a self-defense tool for two legged threats. Target 1 at 21 feet which is considered maximum justifiable self-defense distance looked great for double action. If you were aiming center mass on an attacker, target 1 states he...
Andrew at TFB TV was nice enough to take the time and do a gel test on the 44 Special Hornady Critical Defense 165 grain FTX.
Gel Test - Hornady 44Special 165 grain FTX Critical Defense
Here are some specs and shimming points for Ruger double actions. How to tear it down and measure tolerances. Triggershims The SP101 and Super Redhawk teardown are the same besides grip removal. None of this should have to be done on a Match Champion. I am sure Ruger will put things right. If...
No plans on getting into reloading at the moment. I have roughly 350 casings in 44 mag, 80 300WSM, and 34 44 special. Worth anything?

From a novice doing his homework:
Redhawk- The grip has steel exposed on the back which tranfers energy to the web of the hand between the thumb and pointing finger causing blisters and cuts. A few shots are fine. A glove can be worn while praticing at the range. One spring is used for the...

The lighter bullet and higher velocity may be to aid in expansion on short barrel concealed carry guns.
Hornady Citical Duty 9mm +p 135 grain Gel test with 3 inch Barrel
It is dreamy. The Ruger representitive firing the 2 3/4 inch model double action does it with almost no muzzle flip. I imagine the 5.5 inch barrel would stay right on target. That itself is worth the extra weight. I would have no issues hiding the 4.2 inch barrel model for concealed carry. 96%...
Designed for snubbies the 165 grain bullet has a barrel velocity of 900 fps. The core of the hollow point has a flexible insert designed to prevent clogging from clothing. I could not find a 44 special gel test video for this load but all the other caliber Critical Defense videos show great...
I do no not have the stats, but I am confident accidental discharges while holstering and unholstering are higher with the semi-auto, especially the models with no manual safety. I like the hammer fired double action/single action design on semi-autos, safer.
HighRoad post where the 357 revolver wins.
FBI STATS 380 vs 9mm vs 357 vs 40 vs 45
If this data is true I will choose 9mm over 45 ACP in a semi-auto. The 45 does do slightly better.
The compact .45 ACP semi-auto I want is 7+1. I can't justify the purchase when my 44 magnum holds 6 and can be loaded with 44 special for self-defense. With a lower weight trigger and hammer spring kit plus shims where needed, a smooth trigger pull in double action was obtained on my revolver. I...
I agree, but getting a hollow point to expand from a shorter barrel with less velocity is not always guarenteed. Self-defense ammo is big business and the public at large is bombarded with the fear of bullet overpenetration, not enough expansion, and getting in trouble for a defensive shooting...
