Tell me about 77 flat & hollow bolts

I never understood why Ruger took the early slender and svelte Brownell designed stock and added size & weight to them during that period of production. I’ve owned both styles and the early stocks are much more refined, balanced and graceful. Someone at Ruger must have figured the situation out...

    Ruger M77 RLS 250 savage

Yes, the RLS is essentially the RSI barreled action in a RL stock.

    Ruger M77 RLS 250 savage

As NH Rugerman stated, anything is possible. All I know is Ruger cataloged only 4 chambering in the RLS configuration. The short action .243 & .308 Win and the long action .270 Win & .30-06. As stated, a factory letter would be needed to confirm authenticity.

    Ruger M77 RLS in 308

CHET, can you clarify the .358 carbine rifle for me. I am aware of the (758) M77RS carbines with 19-1/4 “ barrels that were chambered in .358Win. and am aware that some were put into RLS stocks with the ebony forend tip. Did the total number of 758 carbines include both the M77RS and M77RLS...

    Ruger M77 RLS in 308

The RLS carbines were only cataloged in SA .243 & .308Win and LA in .270Win & .30-06 Govt. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen any other chambering. I have the .308Win.

tang safety77 lightweight in the laminated stock price check

Value will depend upon which model you have. The 77RL-DZ Ultralight 20” desert color stock, or the 77RLS-BZ Ultralight carbine 18-1/2” & sights with brown color stock? A photo & serial number may help.

    Ruger's new flat bolt 77

Being a Mark II action/safety with a “flattened” round bolt handle that doesn’t quite have the gracefulness & style of the original flatbolt handle, I’d pass on the “highgrade”. I would consider the very attractive standard “50 year “ rifle though!

    Rare? Unusual? Common? M77 MKII

The red pad ceased with the termination of the M77 tang safety rifles in 1992. Mark II rifles have black pads up till 2006 with the introduction of the Hawkeye rifles, which re-introduces the red pad.

Tell me about 77 flat & hollow bolts

Agreed, the M77’s Brownell classic styled stock was a breath of fresh air amidst a sea of California styled stocks with worthless accoutrements offered during thar era!

Tell me about 77 flat & hollow bolts

Robert, I’ll take a swing at this question regarding the “rarest” item. Would it be a factory supplied front sight “hood” for the rare slotted front base?
