I happened to be up at 4:00 am today. I wake up way too early sometimes.
I noticed a light out by our gate. It was an Amazon delivery guy with some things my wife ordered.
Went out to get the packages from him. Very polite driver. VERY thick eastern European accent.

It struck that here was a guy out working to support himself. Cool. (y)

NOT looking for a handout.
NOT looking for reparations.

Amazing.

I’ve been sitting on my back porch for over an hour. Waiting to see the sky go from can’t-see to can-see. Sipping Eagle Rare and listening to the world wake up. But if I had a delivery at that time of the morning, here in the complete darkness with no city lights or any artificial light, he’d have been met with my 10mm.

There are 3 other homes within 2 miles of me on our one-lane backroad. Crime is virtually nonexistent around here. But after a few years ago (and making The Armed Citizen in the NRA magazine) when three Florida escapees ended up on our dead end road with stolen firearms and were captured by my neighbor and me while trying to steal a farm truck right down the road, if someone makes a point to drive down a 1/4 mile private drive in the dark and stop at my house, you can bet they are gonna identify themselves. I can’t see hat well in the dark to know if someone has a hidden handgun, or even an AK at the time of night.

At 5:53am I'm usually getting done with my shift at work and making sure that everything is running smoothly for the next shift.
I'm taking a final set of equipment readings and writing the logbook.
Then I go home and watch the cartoons on MeTV before going out for breakfast.

I get what @kentucky yeti is saying. I don’t live in the country but if I did cars driving around at night would be watched. (I assume you have security cameras??? No need to answer that by the way.)

We also get Amazon packages early. And the driver for @41Dude sounds like the driver’s around here. There are lots of jobs available for people wanting to work.

We also get emails about upcoming deliveries so I will know to expect packages in the early morning. Not that I’m awake to meet the delivery guy or anything.

Why I like the transition from night to morning. I sit here and see lots of animals. Two possums came out of the wheat field right at daybreak. A groundhog just crossed my backyard. His time on earth will be short. 4 geese flew in and landed in the front pond. By the way- two weeks ago the wheat was full green. Now if it stays dry long enough (we’ve had over 6 inches of rain the past week) we will be running the combine, and running right behind it planting beans. And we have hayfields that needed cutting two weeks ago, but the rain has really got us behind. Not complaining- we desperately needed rain. It would have been nice it we could have gotten it in March and April though. We get what God gives us and are thankful, nonetheless.

We get Amazon deliveries as early as 0400 with some frequency. I've had days when I got one around 0400, another by the postman around 1500 and a third around 2000.

I raffled off my only bottle of Eagle Rare 12 that I have ever seen last month for the hospital charity fund. It cost $212, and I raffled it off for $400 total. I keep Eagle Rare 10 and Buffalo Trace here. They last me a long looooooong time.

There was an "Uber/Amazon incident" at 4 AM at my house once. He made a mistake leaving the house and turned right toward a dead end, I stopped him after he had turned around and was headed the right way, I inquired what he was doing driving around in the neighborhood at 4 AM in the morning flashing his high beams into my bedroom window (blinds closed) and waking me up. We haven't had anymore Uber early morning deliveries since.

REAL men drink Yoo Hoo (without the Kesslers)
When I was a kid back east it was marketed as a chocolate energy drink.
Now the first ingredient is high fructose corn syrup. Maybe that is why it tastes so good

We don’t get any deliveries around here early morning. If it doesn’t come through the mail carrier and packages usually say this will be here between 6:30 PM and 9 PM plus if they tried to deliver at 4 AM I still have four more hours Sleep left to go.

I quit drinking alcohol last year. Actually my cardiologist said "don't take this medication with alcohol"... wish she had told me beforehand that included drinks in the evening after my morning meds... boy was I a cheap date!
Drinks at the duck club? Jack Daniel's... "What's this baby nipple doing in the neck of the bottle?" If I was settled down and just wanted to sip one (maybe two) Knob Creek 100 proof 9 year old Straight Kentucky Bourbon neat....and a glass of spring water sitting next to it MmmmMmmmMmmm

^^^ It's excellent and the price is right. It's in 26oz bottles and is often on sale for $1. The other flavors of Teddy's are not so great but it's a subjective taste. I know the root beer is good so I buy it.
