So, will they ever stop tacking .98 cents on to the price of every thing? They just put it on there anyway to make one think they are paying nine dollars for something instead of ten dollars.

Biggest con job ever on us people. So what happens now?

95¢ is today's 98¢ 🤷‍♂️
So, if people start saying I want my nickle in change are we going to start having a shortage of nickles? Will nickles become too expensive to produce?

How about if they start printing paper coinage? In Vietnam, all the coins were actually printed paper as the regular bills were. I came home with a bunch of that stuff that I used to stuff into an old boot in my locker. I don't even remember what happened to it. It was all different colors but the ones I really liked were brown. They were the 20 dollar bills. I didn't come home with any of them.

The gas stations take it one more decimal place. I would never cross the street to get "cheaper" gas if my station just said 2.97 9 if my station would have just said gas was 2.98 even. What's a 10th of a penny?

I wonder why that ".9" has stuck around all these years? What was the intended purpose of that anyway?

Heard somewhere in the last few days that it costs the .gov $0.14 to make a nickel coin, when are they going to stop making them, that's a big loss? I hear people griping about the rounding, do they not realize that it works both ways and you basically break even over time. We were stationed in Spain 1986-1989 and the US military in Europe did not use pennies, it cost too much to ship them overseas. After about 2 weeks we never even noticed, nor cared about, the rounding up or down of 2 pennies.

Apparrantly, They programmed you well to follow.
The elimination of the penny is a baby step in the escolation of switching to digital currency that the Government controls and moniters every citizen that eats.
The government schools have been training your children for 30 years to use plastic.
I worled with a guy that used to tell me i was a Dinosuar and the only person he knew that carried cash.
When i told him i didnt have acard at all he couldnt believe it.
Sometimes he would just pay for my lunch at the drive thru to save time.
Im telling you guys, allowing the Govt to eliminate cash is the absolute end of a free society.
You might not realize it when it first happens.
But by the time you do realize it, theres no going back.
And when i hear a politicion cry about how .uch it cost to make a nickle.
I ask how many nickles they have pissed away during their time in office. Screw them.

Not everything is a conspiracy..... They've been wanting to get rid of the penny for decades. Illinois has always fought tooth and nail and it has nothing to do with anything except who's face is on there.

Lots of countries have done away with denominations less than .05. They all still use currency, just no more pennies.

The Rental Software I sell, based out of Austria, has had settings to round to the nearest .05, .10, .25 (this is more a customer preference than government). It does not matter what the price is on the tag. When it comes time to total the sale, it adds tax then rounds to the nearest preferred denomination.

Conspiracy theorist follower much? You know NOTHING about me yet you are quick to accuse

goal of big brother is to do away with currency and make everything digital.
theyre doing a pretty good job of it and we the sheep go along with it being told its for our enjoyment and ease of life.....and bite into it.

I think you are preaching to the choir here, for the most part.

You must be new to the internet
I did not say that there wasn't a conspiracy theory for everything. I said that not everything is (despite how many there might be)

The real reason for getting rid of the pennies is because the lizard people are deathly allergic to the particular alloy used in them. The gubment don't need any additional trackers. Everyone born since 1930 had one implanted (with a kill switch) when they were born.

Makes sense to me.

What about the werewolfs and the adrenochrome drinkers?

I fail to see a relationship between the cost of minting an instrument of legal tender, relative to the actual value of said instrument.

What it costs to make a nickel, or a penny for that matter, is insignificant in the big picture as that particular instrument will be in circulation for decades. Talk about depreciation...

Any arguments for the elimination of instruments of legal tender, based purely upon these cost relationships are merely a smokescreen...in the working toward the elimination of "cash" and the era of the "digital dollar"....and the end of freedom....forever....

Little bites.....

There are plenty of pennies in existence. The problem is that people hoard them until there is enough to make it worth the bother to exchange them for something worth spending.

Does this mean that a 1% tax increase now becomes five cent on the dollar instead of a penny?

Federal surveillance tech becomes mandatory in new cars by 2027

Federal surveillance tech becomes mandatory in new cars by 2027
Your next car purchase comes with an unwelcome passenger: a federal mandate requiring surveillance technology that monitors your every blink, glance, and head nod. Thanks to Section 24220 of the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, NHTSA must finalize rules forcing all new passenger vehicles to include “advanced impaired driving prevention technology”-essentially turning your dashboard into a judgment-free zone that’s anything but judgment-free.
The Technology That’s Watching
Infrared cameras and sensors create a constant biometric assessment of driver alertness and sobriety.
The tech involves infrared cameras mounted on steering columns or A-pillars, tracking eye movement, pupil dilation, and drowsiness patterns. Unlike the breathalyzer ignition interlocks from DUI convictions, these systems operate passively-no blowing required. Your car simply watches and decides whether you’re fit to drive.
If the AI determines you’re impaired (blood alcohol ≥0.08% or showing fatigue), it can prevent ignition startup or limit vehicle speed. Think Minority Report, but for your morning commute.

The "Cost to Mint" is one thing, and you are correct, that should not be considered. What matters is the "Cost of Materials".
