{ You do know you can just as easily contact Ruger and purchase the AR magwell } I did not! Thanks for the heads up definitely sounds lighter in hand and wallet.

I did that a year or two back, so I could use AR mags in a 7.62x39 RAR rifle. While talking with the nice Ruger parts person on the phone, I also added some spare parts - a couple of the plastic bolt shrouds, plus one or two cocking pieces. I've read online that those can break for various reasons. So, you might look over a parts diagram and see if there are any spares you might want, before placing an order!

Well apparently I don't have an AICS Ruger American chassis. Somehow I ordered 3 AR mags. I knew I was going to build a 300BLK, but I wanted the AICS to build a 6 Dasher. The extra one isn't for sale yet. I seriously thought the last one I got was AICS 😔

Well, after putting a 458 round in an AICS mag and a 6BR AICS mag (just has a spacer in the back) I will say that it fits the 6BR much better. The AICS feeder has a "ramp" on it and it catches the shoulder of the 458 and wouldn't allow feeding out of the mag easy.
The 6BR you could half moon the front lip just a touch, and it should feed just fine. I'll post the AICS first and then the 6BR

I can't give you a 100% certain answer. I thought I had a Ruger American AICS Chassis, but apparently, I ordered 3 AR mag chassis somehow.

Unless I could swap the factory Ruger magwell to AICS? I will try and look around and see if that is even a possibility.

My barrel should be done within the next couple weeks. Tax stamp hopefully same, though this brace madness might slow it down. Will update when it all comes together

It's finally here!! My Primal 46 is free! So here is what I found. I could not find a cost effective way to QD mount my suppressor. I called Dead Air. Great people over there. Dead Air did not have a 458 diameter QD mount available at the time. They referred me to a machine shop that will custom make a 458 diameter muzzle break that will interface with the Dead Air Key Mo adapter. It was expensive! Well, more than I wanted to spend. I am trying to keep this project budget minded as possible. They did make some cool stuff! I though for a bit about what to do. I have a few Dead Air suppressors and I have the Sandman L with Key Mo interface. So keep things separate I decided to use a different set up so that I do not inadvertently put a 30 caliber suppressor on my 458 Socom. I love the Primal 46! I found that the mounting size and threads of the back of the suppressor can use a variety of mounting options. I saw that Silencerco had a correct size and thread pitch to mount a ASR mount to use their ASR muzzle breaks. Silenerco had a 458 diameter ASR muzzle break that fit my barrel muzzle threads. Everything went together perfectly.

So now I am loading up some 410gr Sub-X subsonic projectiles. I am going to try Reloader 7. I will give a range report when I get back from the range.

I am so glad I stumbled upon this thread. I have been wanting to do a build like this for a while. I want to be able to hunt with subs suppressed and with my current .300 blk sbr I don't trust hunting whitetail with subs. I am going to grab one and sbr it.

Where is everyone buying there base rifles? The best price I saw was just under $500.

Has anyone looked at the KGR bravo chassis?

Technically you dont have to buy a chassis to put it in. You can actually use the factory stock that it comes in. Just order the AR mag well adaptor from Ruger. Or if you have a personal favorite, I would just use whatever that is. Otherwise, wait for MDTs black friday sale. Its the only sale they do and its HUGE

I am on the fence between a chassis or a stock. I might get the AR magwell and run that for a while. Does anyone have an idea on the length of the stock from the muzzle. I am guessing an 11" barrel would fall right at the end of the stock.

Has anyone else run a short barrel? I know to tromix recommends 1:10 twist rate for shooting subs out of a barrel under 12"

I'm so thankful for all the knowledge in this thread

Ill measure my old stock and see how long it is from the receiver to the end of the stock. I think an 11" would probably be as short as you could probably go, but Ill find out after work

My friend runs an AR with a 10.5", he likes it. Ive been procrastinating for the last couple of years and building a 10.5" for my SBR lower to play with

Im having good results with the MDT AICS 300WSM/6.5PRC 3rd Mags the 7rd Mag is having issues. the 3rd looks promising. Ill report back when i get to the range to test. For the 7rd Mag I was thinking of making a binder plate in the front of the mag and cut the follower but id have to find a smaller spring to fit in with the binder plate

Yeah I could have sworn that I ordered an AICS Chassis for Ruger American because I wanted to test out 458 SOCOM feeding out of an AICS. But I guess I ordered 3 AR mag chassis' :(

I've been looking into building a 458 bolt gun for a while now and stumbled across this exceedingly helpful thread. Question is has anyone tried using a 308 or 6.5 creedmoor as the base rifle since they share the .473 rim size? And does the donor rifle need to be a ranch rifle or can a regular American be used as long as the new barrel and stock are designed to take ar mags. I haven't seen a 450 bushmaster in a while but I can pick up a ruger in the other calibers any day of the week used for a good price.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Im finishing mine now mine was a LH 6.5 Creedmore the only thing is you can not run AR15 mags unless you start out with the 450 ranch rifle.
The bolt is not cut nor is the action to accept ar15 mags on the Standard 243,260,6.5,708,308 rifles
