Hunted quite a few days , was getting pretty down about not see any big deer
Took a walk in the bush about a mile away from my truck, walked up on a cow elk , I was pretty happy about this , but only had a bull elk tag lol
Took my son out he got a nice deer 4x4 deer, , last day I just about didn't go out , but a friend wanted to go so out I went ,
About 10:30 am we spotted this guy , the 375 Ruger , dropped him on the spot , all doubts disappeared then
It was a quick shot hit him in the neck , I rough scored him at about 176 with out deductions, best deer so far

Congrats on a FINE whitetail buck!

I actually prefer to go out in bad weather. I seem to have less competition in the woods, and the deer seem to move better for me.

Seems to me the farther north you go, the bigger they are. Not sure what makes the variation in antler colors though. Diet? Genetics?

Thanks for reply's,
It was -27 c and snowing when I came upon the deer, got him on nov 30 last day of hunting
My son got his deer on nov 7th on his birthday, only about 1/4 mile from where I got the big guy
Here's a pic for of the gun shoots deadly accurate

Antler coloration is mostly determined by the type of trees/brush the buck rubbed them on during the removal of velvet and the runup to the rut is what a taxidermist told me.

Shape and size are functions of genetics and nutrition.

here's my deer back from taxidermist, looks great,
hes is a lot darker than my other deer , but there probably 30 years old so may have faded a bit from being hung in sun light over the years
I rarely shoot for the neck , but it was a very quick shot , almost instinct shooting lol, he's was running away quickly , I usually shoot for the heart area,
Thanks for all the reply's,
