I carry a Sig P239 in Sig 357 and on my desk I have a Sig P239 with a laser target cartridge in it that I can practice with when ever. Went out yesterday morning to a few places carrying my P239... then wife and I were planning to go visit some friends later in the afternoon.. in between the times I decided to do some dry fire practice and removed my loaded carry pistol (it is always loaded... I learned my lesson years ago). Put the pistol with the laser cartridge in my holster and did some practice using an ap on my phone for about 5 or 8 minutes.. .the sat down and did some office work and then it was about time to head out to the friends.... was just fixing to leave and then realized I needed something in my office and when back.... there is my loaded carry pistol sitting on my desk... I still had the one with the laser cartridge in my holster.....

What's a greater worry to you, leaving a loaded gun laying around,or not having a loaded gun on you?
Are they identical?

Years ago I emptied the ammo from a revolver and started "fiddling" with it. When I opened the cylinder to reload, I discovered one round in in the cylinder. Even though I never had the "empty" revolver pointed at myself or anyone else, my knees got weak and a sick feeling came over my stomach just thinking what could have happened.

It was pretty clear to me he was more concerned with almost going out with an unloaded gun.

I keep two loaded guns at hand 24/7, but never leave one unattended. The possibility of tragic consequences is avoidable,so?
He made a mistake, why try to defend it?
I'm sure,in the future he will be more vigilant, let's all learn from his open admission.

Some(many) of us live in a totally different world---'leaving a loaded gun laying around' is totally normal and acceptable for some of us.
Y'all tagged it, I would have felt really stupid if I had gone out with the 'unloaded' gun... as for leaving the loaded gun laying around.... no children in the house or ever come in and I can honestly say I don't know how many loaded guns I have around the house..... not out in the open but easily with in reach. I just thought about it... at least 8.

Every gun I own which is not on my person is securely stored where none of my grandchildren can have any chance of getting to them. The small gun safes secured in various locations in my home are readily accessible to me, and certainly not secure against a well equipped burglar, but easily secure enough against a curious child or teenager. Each of the guns that might be my carry gun are loaded so there is no chance I would ever leave the house carrying an unloaded gun.

This is a good place to bring up an incident that happened about 1 week ago outside Ontario Or. Brief case story. Armed bad guy in afternoon walks into a farm house through an unlocked door. Wife is in home, hubby walks in home unknown bad guy is inside. Bad guy points a gun at hubby demands he makes him a sandwich. Hubby says he needs to made sure his wife is ok before doing anything. Bad guy says sure go check on your wife. Hubby gets his loaded shotgun and shoots bad guy instead of making him a sandwich. Bad part is the bad guy is still alive and in medical care. Once he is discharged, it's off to jail on this and other cases.
Case in point do I need to list it. Have a or more firearms ready to take on evil.

I know the feeling. I'll tell one more on myself. Probably thirty years ago a friend and I were going to camp out on the river. We were in a hurry so I reached in my gun cabinet and grabbed one of several old Colt revolvers I had and a box of 38 special ammo. After we drove way out in the boonies, I discovered I'd grabbed a 38 S&W Colt to go along with the 38 special ammo. So I had a club for close range and a box of ammo to throw at longer range :)

@blume357 your training video showing your laser setup. Was done very well, but it made me realize the potential problems of having two identical guns handy that have such different purposes.

Thanks for sharing your little mishap, its a learning moment. Stay safe, God bless.

I had to make a quick town run last week and was 2 miles up the road when I realized I'd removed my holstered pistol while crawling around in the dirt and hadn't replaced it on my belt. No biggy, the AR 300 PDW is sitting at my elbow as a semi-permanent accessory in the work pickup.
Stopped at the barbershop and there was an old friend. We were discussing 'stuff' and the barber commented that it was probably the most secure barbershop in the state. My friend made a little grin and said "Not today, I left home w/o my 'tupperware'(he carries a GLOCK)". Barber looked at me and I just shrugged. Barber said "Well, I'm really disappointed in you guys" to which I replied " If you think we're in any danger, I'll step out to the pickup and be right back". Grins and chuckles all around.

Sounds like he DID make the intruder a sandwich......... a lead sandwich.

My son was in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend. was walking out of a parking garage and a thug came up behind him yelling crazy stuff and then got in his face. My son placed his hand on his apex carry and thank GOD he didn't draw. Crazy man saw a cop on the street and left. When my son returned to Memphis he immediately bought carry insurance for both he and his wife. Not to degrade Memphis but he doesn't pump gas there without a hand on his carry weapon.
