Any reason 223, 55 grain would cause jamming in AR 15's?

I have a friend that claims 223, 55 grain causes jams in Ar 15's while the 62 grain round does not. I'm new to this style of rifle so i don't know. I would assume that with all the 55 grain ammo sold, that jamming wouldn't be an issue. Thanks for the replies.

I don't agree at all that 55 grain loads cause malfunctions.

I would entertain the discussion however, if an old worn our M16 barely operated, (like the issued M-16's of my day), a heavier load and/or heavier bullet could improve operation.

A lot of gun owners offer blanket opinions, based only on personal experience. (For example, "If it ain't a 1911, it ain't worth sh!t!") Your friend may have had experience with a specific AR15 (one out of a million variations), that had issues with a specific 55 grain load (reloads? steel case?), but no issues with a specific 62 grain load (match ammo? who knows?). Result: advice to friends to 'avoid 55 grain like the plague because it causes jams!' A lot of individual firearms may actually perform better with one type of ammo than another, but even an apparently identical firearm from the same manufacturer may have different 'preferences'.

IMHO, FWIW, YMMV, etc., etc.

Guns are individuals. Some may not like a specific ammo. But to say all AR's jam on a specific bullet weight is overreaching.

The one thing that can be said is that the M-16 is the worst firearm forced on American service personnel ever.

On the other hand the 1911A1 is the best handgun ever supplied to them.

Both of the above are from personal experience. Proof of those statements occurred in less time than seems humanly possible.

Before I can comment, I need to know what 'jamming' means. As with any mechanical device with moving parts, there can be any number of causes for malfunction.
I custom assemble AR platform firearms and don't accept 'jams' being common for a specific bullet weight--simply too many other possibilities.

My SP1 and my stock Colt A1 uppers (and slabsides) use the 55gr bullets, and eats them like candy. I always try to use Winchester Q3131 and Federal M193, hot and reliable. I use it in my faster rate barrels at sometimes as well. I never have problems with the ammo itself.
