what bullet did you use that did not exit? You treated you pistol like a loud bow , good conservative use of it ! More people should practice marksmanship and patience for better hunts!
Hi
Here is the bullet. Got my mount, cape and bullet back this weekend. If you look close you will see the deer DNA (hair, brain matter, etc). The point of entry was the left ear canal and the trajectory was essentially a straight line forward into the skull. I don't have the snaps taken at the kill site to reference but I believe the bullet churned through to the rear of the rostrum from left to right, possibly 7-9 inches of bones and brain.

I will one day bowhunt. It is on my TODO list for this year. But only if I feel 100% with my bow (that I haven't bought yet).

Yes the meals are tasty indeed. Better each time as I am more accustomed to cooking deer.
Over cooking game ruins more meat than one can imagine.

Problem w/ ear shot is if youd missed and hit jaw the deer would have died a terrible death.

I bet many folk have disiked vennison due to how it was prepared and or how it was cooked. Heck I never knew a pork chop could be juicy until as an adult I ordered one - mom always baked them dry! LOL

Agreed on the possible bad outcomes for misplaced shots, be it head, neck, or body.

That bullet really performed well! What brand and weight of bullet did you use?

I got my mount last weekend. I still have the front legs I want to make as a holder. Going to set my Redhawk revolver in them and have the bullet on display as well both under the mount.

Congrats on a fine buck! Killing a deer with one of my pistols is more rewarding, to me, than shooting one with a bow. That said, since I've began pistol hunting I've seen a few monster bucks that I'd have killed with a rifle but I just watch 'em walk on off.:(

NOT laughing at you, but rather laughing because my first wife's mother did exactly the same thing.
The first time we (first wife and I) had some game meat for dinner, she was VERY hesitant to even
try it. I had cleaned it (got it from her uncle), cut it into slightly larger than bite sized chunks, browned
it in butter, then added some of my mother's home made choke-cherry wine. - - - After the wife's first
bite, I had to fight to get my share. ;)
