Received some sad news today. I don't know how many people are aware so I thought I'd pass it on.

Long time fellow Ruger collector Bob Nelson has passed away. Bob was instrumental in establishing the Nashville Ruger Collector Show about 10-15 years ago. It was he who inspired me, when the Nashville show ceased to exist, to start the Harrisburg, PA show, which, in turn, inspired a lot of us to try and revive the RCA and subsequently start ROCS.

We all lost a Ruger collecting friend on Tuesday. Bob had a great collection of Ruger Bisleys as well as Ruger Old Model convertibles, which he loved to both display.

RIP, Bob.

Here is his obituary:

RIP Bob!

I met Bob many years ago as a newbie Ruger displayer in Nashville. He was kind, patient, and offered gentle advice. Truly a nice guy.
One of my favorite memories of him occurred after a few years we'd made friends. He'd heard me talk of "Miss Penny" quite a bit. When she accompanied me to a show,,, he came up & said; "You spoke so kindly about Miss Penny that I thought she was made up. I'm glad to meet her & know everything was true!"
Goodbye my friend!

I met Bob at the RCA dinner during the Louisville NRA convention a few years back. Quite the gentleman, and quite willing to talk Rugers with a neophyte.

My condolences to the family.

Thanks Matt for the notice about Bob. My first Ruger display was presented at Bob's Nashville show in 1999. I still have pictures of all the displays presented by: Charlie Davis, Dale Dalbotten, Bill Hamm, John Kruckenberg, Bill Eyring,
Bob Nelson and myself. Bob made all attendees feel welcome and important. He was very proud of his collection of some very rare convertibles and Bisleys. We will miss Bob's quiet, yet personable presence. He was a great husband and fellow Ruger collector. Doris Campbell was one of the judges and she took time to "coach" me on how to improve my display! Brass Frame/Lee

Yes, Bob was a great person!! It seems he was always present at all the major theme shows and had a true interest in furthering Ruger collecting among the masses. I'm not sure how many NRA shows he went to, but he was at every one I can remember, always offering his assistance to the passers-by.
Bob was also the person who supplied award plaques for so many years for RENE and RCA.
RIP Bob...
