I know a bunch of you have S&W double actions. Was trying to determine which frame these are for. Bottom of panels are 1 7/8 and measuring height they are about 3 3/4 inches. I'm guessing K or L frame but not sure. Any ideas? Thanks

I may be wrong as I haven't had an "L" frame gun for a long while, but IIRC, mine has a stabdard wood stock in the target configuration. When I removed the, the gun's frame has a round butt and the stoccks were inlet for that round butt. Mine was one of thearly one that had to go back to S&W for repair. Great gun when I got it but I do remember the round butt configuration of the frame.

K and L are the same, though I'd guess those stags predate the introduction of the L frame. . They are nice panels, done in the "high horn" style. I'd say K at a glance . If the are for an N frame, the mis-fit will be obvious in the upper rear frame horn area, when tried on the wrong frame size.

Here's a set of factory N frame panels from a 1954 pre-model 27. They measure 1 7/8" across the bottom and 3 7/8" from frame bottom to high horn.

These are K frame factory panels from a 1952 combat Masterpiece. The measure 1 3/4" or a fuzz more across the frame bottom and 3 13/16" frame bottom to high horn.

that top pair with the "wide" wood, behind the medallion washer and being 1 7/8 appear to be N frames.................."L" frames came in many years later after those "diamond" escutcheon panels,,,,,and yes, "K" and L are the same size, the "L" frame was to make it a true 357 frame instead of being built on .38 special frame, good move on S&W's part, BUT the hey day of the LE and need for more firepower ( round capacity) took over.....one thing the "urban" riots taught us back in the late 60s:cool::rolleyes::cautious:

Model 19 was my first duty gun, and the newer "L" frames made it even better

Jussbad, the same appears to be for your stags, the material behind ( to the rear of the black spacer) is wider, like an "N" frame type...... ;)
