1970 OM 357 in 4 5/8 barrel. the good news is its not converted. the bad is someone put there name in the bottom of the grip frame. cool oversized grips. 80% finish at best. surprisingly a really tight action. typical Alaskan gun. carry alot for protection, but hardly used. bore is great. be a good candidate for a custom gun. $500 shipped... NOT a C&R gun... FNC (its worth more in parts)

Just a question. This pistol is more than 50 yrs old. I thot that qualified a firearm to qualify for C&R? Does a '57 model FT qualify for C&R? Thks

I believe you are correct but it is always the sellers prerogative to make the terms.
Flattops are stated as on the "list", and "over 50 years" is allowable but the seller would have to prove that if it ever came to it.
Many dealers don't want to be bothered with the paperwork.
I'm getting old enough that I am seeing more and more Old Models qualifying due to manufacture date, but if it's "close", a letter should be sufficient proof of eligibility.

It IS a curio. Any firearm that can be proven to be 50 years old or older is a curio if in its original configuration (some minor exceptions allowed such as refinish, added scope, change in grips, etc.) conforming to its original shadow outline. A shortened barrel immediately eliminates the curio status. The extra scratches on the butt and replacement grips do not take it out of the curio status. So, if made in 1970, it IS a curio. The ATF C&R list is a guide that is NOT all inclusive; they do not do yearly updates. When each update was printed, it had items that were NOT 50 years old but gained ATF curio status due to some unique feature or historical significance such as Ernest Hemmingway's pistol being on the list. The Ruger website (shows as 1970) provides many manufacture dates as does Chad Hiddleson's Reference Guides (shows as 1970). Hope this helps.

Yep, mine too. As long as the seller Want's to.
Some sellers may want , but thier FFL guy may not want to accept the C&R.
Their prerogative. Usually afraid they mat make a mistake or too lazy to bother.

ATF applied tighter criteria to military imports, then decided to apply that to ALL possible curios. It is all available for reading (lots of it) on line at their website. For example, a Springfield 1903 that is put into a plastic RamLine stock is no longer a curio. Get a replacement stock set and then it is.
