The 1897 Cowboy: .22 S, L, or LR cal., takedown action, 19 shot (.22 LR cal.), tube mag., rebounding hammer with block safety, 24 in. tapered octagon barrel with Micro-Groove (16 grooves) rifling, cut checkered walnut stock and forearm, adj. Marble semi-buckhorn rear and carbine front sight with brass bead.

1897 Cowboy Limited
Condition/Extras: LNIB only because I'm not the first owner.
Price: $1500. Possible interesting Ruger trades.
If it helps anyone, I could also do a 90 day layaway.

While I love octagon barrels on an older rifle, especially a lever...the rectangular lever on this one makes it look like it was made by a machine, rather than handmade. A curved lever would add to the aesthetics of this rifle. Good luck on your sale. You should get a nice price for that one.

Marlin 1897s had square levers. Its the classic Marlin look.

Definitely nice rifles …What are the other 3 "unplugged" holes in the left side of the receiver used for? I would guess some type of rear sight? It looks like one hole is threaded and might be missing the blank screw?
Honestly just curious…My knowledge of these beauties is somewhat lacking…
