To add another capability in the field big game hunting, I have used and tested a few cartridge adapters; .32 ACP in a 7.62x54, .32 ACP in a .30-40 Krag, .32 Short Colt in a .30-30, and a+ .25 ACP in a .250-3000. With the exception of the .25 ACP/.250-3000, all are very capable at my tested 25 yd mark; no surprise with the latter, given the smaller diameter bullet; however, it is still capable of taking a barking squirrel out of a tree while in your stand. You might as well put it in your pot, as it has already alerted every big game animal within 10 square miles that you are there. Accuracy at 25 yds/5 shot group typically ran around 2.5'' with the .30-30/.32 SC the best at about 1.5'' The adapters that I tested were all all made by Marbels, but Winchester and others offered them as well. New varieties are being offered by Ace/MCA Sports in Anchorage, AK for those that might be interested.

A 1.5" group @ 25 yards equates to at least a 6" group at 100 yards. Probably adequate for CLOSE range small game shooting! When I hunted ground squirrels, most of my 22 autos (Mark II, Woodsman, S & W 41) were good out to 65 yards. A good 22 or 22 mag should be good to 100 or so and not make much more noise, if any.

Maybe not for the tree stand, but maybe p!inking or coop protection. Thank you for your report, @upter43 . I will look into these. Another practical reason to carry the Winchester is always appreciated.
