THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO PRACTICE POSTING PHOTOS
after you read this tutorial

UPDATED 6/9/2013 to show changes at Photobucket.

How to use

Photobucket
(http://photobucket.com/)

to host photos for posting on this forum

To create an account click on SIGN UP FOR FREE:

Image

and follow the registration steps.

OK, now you are ready to start uploading photos.

The main page will look something like this:

Image

STEP 1:

Uploading photos to Photobucket.

To upload a photo click on the word "UPLOAD" in the upper menu bar

Image

and a window similar to this one will open.

Image

Then search for your photo on your computer and
either DOUBLE - CLICK the desired photo or single click it and
choose OPEN in the folder window.
(Supported image file types are jpg, jpeg, gif, png, bmp (bmp will convert to jpg on upload))

Image

It will then automatically load your photo onto the page at Photobucket.

It will show your progress similar to this:

Image

Then when fully loaded your page will look similar to this:

Image

There will be an annoying ad that plays in the center of the screen (shown here with the yellow lines thru it)...just ignore the add.
Your newly uploaded photo will be on the lower left.

and you need to click the blue VIEW LIBRARY button in the upper left to go to the "LIBRARY" (folder) where it is stored on Photobucket.

and you will see a screen similar this.
(this will show all the photos you have placed in the file / folder.
You are also able to create new "libraries" / folders, but that
process I will let you learn on your own)

Image

and now it shows your newly added photo

Repeat STEP 1 for each photo you want to upload.

STEP 2:

Getting the photo(s) to the page on this forum:

Open a new window and navigate to RugerForum.

Start a new post or reply to a post:

Image

Type in the relevant text in your post.

Move the cursor to where you want your photo to be placed.

Go back to you Photobucket window and

Place your cursor over the gear icon (or left click on the gear icon)
on the right hand upper corner on the photo you want to post
and you will see a small box appear below that icon
showing the available links or urls to that image:

Image

Click on "GET LINKS" and the following window will open:

Image

Then click on the bottom most / lowest choice called IMG CODES (for forums and boards)
and it will turn the space yellow and say "COPIED" in the space and it has placed the link on your clipboard.

Image

ONLY a url between the [img]and[/img] tags will work
This is always the bottom choice called IMG Code

Then go back to your open post / reply on the forum,
RIGHT-CLICK where you want the photo to show up,
and choose PASTE. (or press ctrl + V to paste)

Now your post / reply should look similar to this:

Image

repeat adding the relevant urls for the photos you want.

Finish all your normal text

and click preview ....to make sure everything looks right (if not..fix it) then click SUBMIT.

and walla!

you have photos in your post.

NOTE TO ALL:

Photobucket is FREE

Photobucket may have different colors to the pages backgrounds
(I have seen a lot of black pages lately. Not white like mine)

This tutorial does not and will not include any info on creating PB Albums, choosing albums, editing albums or anything else that PB offers in it's own help section, SO BE PREPARED for subtle differences.

Make sure your photos are clear and large enough to show detail,
but not too large as too make people's screen too wide and
make it necessary to scroll to the side.

The steps above are not the only way to do this
but it is the way I do it and it works.

The screen grabs I git were obtained while using Firefox 21.0. Your screen may look different, but the directions will remain the same.

I hope this helps some

Can I post pictures directly from my computer without having to go through the photobucket, or some other online photo place?

No, not on this forum.

You need to host them somewhere on the web first

How to make a Screen Shot (screen capture)

A screen shot can be done 2 ways.

1st:
Press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard.
This takes a snapshot of what is on your screen at that moment. A snapshot of the complete screen.

Then open an image editor program such as Microsoft Paint (which is on all Windows machines),
or http://www.irfanview.com/ which is a FREE image editing program.

Once your image editor is open, find and choose the "Paste" option.
It will transfer your snapshot to the program and allow you to do whatever you desire
(within the capabilities of the program)

Here is a screenshot of my screen (with 2 windows open) with print screen:

Image

2nd:
Press "Alt" AND "Print Screen" at the same time to take a snapshot of the forward most window on your screen.
(some people may have a couple of windows open and one or 2 may be smaller windows.)
Whichever window is on top, or the most forward window, will be singled out
and captured by pressing "Alt" and "Print Screen" together.

Then again, open an image editing program, find paste and it will paste the snapshot into the program.

Here is an example of that.

My screen has 2 windows open. The large normal one and a small one (irfanview).

I get just the small one as a snapshot with "Alt" AND "Print Screen":

Image

I hope this helps with screen shots

also called screen captures

Hi Yooper1.

People like you make places like this great - I appreciate it. I am at a place that I don't see covered though. I just did a classified ad and your instructions worked great except for the fact my pictures are "small" (See F/S FTS in Phoenix Marlin 45-70). I set the pictures up in a single album on Photobucket so now how do I get the dozen or so shots in the album up to (Is it 640?) the correct size. My ad is small size.

Appreciate all your help!

Sorry guy.

I haven't been around here much and I did not see your question on the photo size problem.

I hope you got it straightened out.

You can resize a photo right on the photobucket page.

Above the photo on the page on Photobucket, you should see an "EDIT" link (next to "move" "Share" "Delete")

Click on edit and then you will see a screen like this:
Image

You can resize by either clicking the "RESIZE" icon near the top or using the SLIDER on the right hand side to make it bigger or smaller.

Then when you get it resized....click on the REPLACE ORIGINAL button on the lower right below the image.

I hope this helps and I am sorry I did not see your question sooner.
