Hi folks, I had a question for you all. I just ordered a recoil calibration pack from Wolff Gunsprings for my P95DC. Not that the recoil is bad or anything on a 9mm, but I was so impressed by how smooth their increased-power spring made my AR15 feel that I thought I'd test the same idea on my P95. My problem lies in the spring collar retaining ring: how do I remove it without bending it, snapping it, or otherwise rendering unusable?

Thanks!

Are they even available from anyone but Ruger?
Also you have the problem with the p95 having a duel spring setup??

Yup, MidwayUSA has replacement retaining rings for $2.49. Not expensive, but still money that could otherwise be spent on ammunition if I can get the original ring off without wrecking it. Like I said, it's not as though the 9mm generates a lot of recoil, but my springs are getting a bit older and the Wolff recoil spring that I bought for my AR15 was so nice that I thought that it couldn't hurt to experiment a little with my sidearm as well. The P95 pack from Wolff included four springs options: 12lbs, 13lbs, 14lbs, and 16lbs. But how do I get that little retaining ring off so that I can start testing the spring options? I'd really like to be able to spend my money on ammunition instead of buying replacements for that ring...

Several years ago, the little ring came off my P95 guiderod -- so I just went without it. I just had to carefully disassemble and reassemble the gun when cleaning it so everything wouldn't going flying. That said, Wolff usually provides some pretty good instructions on how to replace springs -- let's hope they mention it.

The ring has a split in it. Simply pop it of with your thumb nail. Being sure to hold the springs tightly back away.

Thanks Roylt! I thought that I would need a screwdriver or something to pry it off, but it did indeed pop off with just my thumb nail. Thanks again!

Did the recoil springs work? Last i read Wolff did not have springs for p95's . only the 85/89/90.

They did not work, for the exact reason you stated. When I ordered the springs, I made the mistake of thinking that "P90 Series" would include the P95. Oh well, maybe someday Wolff will add 95 springs to their inventory.

I was hoping it worked out for you. I also bought one from wolff so i was hoping it could be modified some way.

I don't know if it's possible to modify them, that's beyond my ability. Are there any other companies making increased-power springs for the P95?

I would like to see someone like Galloway create some springs for the P95 that improve the way it cycles. I have no actual problems with mine but the slide return after firing feels "lazy", not exactly confidence inspiring. It has always felt that way, even when new.
