I wrote Ruger CEO Mike Fifer on their website last night to thank him for the repair of my Single Six I had purchased used. I discovered it had a pitted chamber in the cylinder and had sent it to Ruger for repair. I had expected to pay for a new cylinder and labor costs. They repaired it and returned it with a new .22 LR and a new .22 WMR cylinder. NO CHARGE!! That's SERVICE!!

I also mentioned that my son in FL had a gunsmith tell him that there were problems with the SR1911 and production was halted. My son had bought one in December and has had NO problems with his. I asked for any comments on this, and received the following reply this morning:

Dear Mr. Ralph,

Our SR1911s are flawless. Any rumors to the contrary are utter B.S. And we have never suspended or slowed production. We have, in fact, doubled production recently.

Best Regards,
Mike Fifer

There now... Let's hope that finally lays to rest any ugly rumors that the SR1911 is a failing product! (Although it would be great for those of us who already have one or more!) ;)

With exception of one person having the front sight broken (which could have happened in shipment ??) I've not heard of any problems with the SR1911 either.

Biggest gripe is they're not delivered fast enough.

One or two casting flaw issues as well, which from all accounts Ruger has remedied.

I've never heard any such rumor.

I'm guessing that's the reason that the rumors of a the SR1911 being a failing product have borne fruit. It's sort of like the term Vaporware in regards to the electronics industry.

I guess ... but I'm still not seeing that as anywhere near indicative of a 'failed product'.

How about the thread "No More SR1911?" as an example. Perhaps semantics...

When someone wants something real bad, and cant get it, often times with some people that makes them want it even more. So in these peoples eyes that cant get the SR1911 they want and buy something else, Ruger failed them. Doesn't mean Ruger SR1911 has failed period, just those that were let down. When you get to many people walking around saying who cares, you can't find one anyway then people will eventually give up and spend that $$ elsewhere. Glad to hear Ruger is stepping up, but there are still distributors and LGS that have seen few to none, therefore some people are walking around mumbling "who cares".

Big difference between Ruger failing at something (like planning) and a PRODUCT failing ... like the 1911.

I would agree. SR1911 failure would be problems with the gun and them not selling IMO. People confuse disappointment and failure.

Thanks Grampie. I think you were talking about production failures in your email weren't you?
