I sent for a factory letter. The letter that Ruger sent me gave only the name of the company to which it was shipped, not the name of a buyer.

#46 Went to Jack Packard who worked in Southport from about 1958 to retirement in about 1985. He was in charge of customer service (repairs) when I first met him about 1976. He was originally from Northern Maine. When he retired to Winslow, Maine he sold his collection to James A. Smith who had a gun shop in the same town (Jim's Gun Shop). Jim continued to buy the #46's until the factory stopped sending them. Jim's collection has the SR1911, but I think the last one that he got was the Single-Ten. All of the collection (about 96 or 97 firearms) will be for sale individually ( I tried to sell it for him as a unit and listed it here, but no takers ) at Poulin's Auctions in October of this year. The dates of the auction have been set to be the 19th, 20th, and the 21st. There are also the employee gifts he received, etc. There is also going to be a listed brass frame Super as well. Along with the 46's are a bunch of special Rugers he had in the gun shop that had almost 2,500 firearms in inventory. There are new in the box folding Mini's and even a Mini in 222 Rem. There are some other items of note for October; keep watching Poulin's website. Some are being offered in the Summer sale which is June 8th and 9th. The June items are now listed on Poulin's website. Rugers in the June auction are more common and not too many fall in the collectable category. The #46 collection is missing some firearms; #46 FT .357 was found and owned for a bit by Bill Hamm. The 77/44 was destroyed at the factory as sometimes happens with the subscription guns. It took too much effort to put a receiver through the numbering machine with a past number so it was lost to eternity. There is no Gold Label, and hardly anyone got one in their low numbers. The Standard Auto, FT 44, Single-Six, and the 300,000 series Lightweight are also missing. The collection started with the Bearcat and went onward from there. The October auction will likely be the largest offering of collectable Rugers ever presented at one time. Because of the draw of the #46's and other collectable Rugers from Jim's Gun Shop, other Ruger collectors are known to be putting some collectables in the auction as well. Be sure to check out the offerings on their website!

Funny how some dealers post something on Gunbroker and really don't say anything about what could make it worth an $1,100 starting bid.
Its no wonder there were no bids on this one...looks just like any other BNV-455.
If a collector were looking through the Vaquero auctions and happened to see that the gun was indeed Jim Carmichael's #13 and the 13th Vaquero ever made, then they might actually get that $1,100. No reason to look further when the title only says "RUGER VAQUERO .45 LC cal". All people see is the price.

It just baffles me how a lot of people just don't see true collectability for some things. The Ruger company is one of them.

Carmichael's previous ownership of that gun is mentioned in the tiny fine print in the description of the gun way down at the bottom of the ad where nobody ever goes.

The ad headline should have read "Jim Carmichael's Vaquero!!!!!!" and that might have stirred things up a bit.

Yeah...the ad doesn't even say the gun pictured was #13, only that Carmichael had the #13's.
