Lately, when logging in, I have been getting a notice that says, “Website not secure!”

Anything to this? I haven’t seen it before.....

Dave

Seems like that's a message generated by your browser. Maybe you did an update/upgrade and your security settings changed?

Nothing new, different or problematic here I know of. Hope other Mods or Admin will chime in too.

p.s. ~ I logged off and back on from my computer at home, my iPad and a computer at work; no changes here.

Okay, just curious. I have never seen that warning before. I hope my browser security hasn’t been compromised in some way.

Thanks for your response. Dave

I have been getting the same message and the reason appears to be that your site, as well as some others, does not come up with the https:, which is the sign of a secure site. Most of the other forums do as soon as you go to login. The lack of the https address is what is tripping the security warning because it does not appear to be a secure site. Do you know why https is not being used?

I have no idea. I am not technologically inclined. In fact kinda ignorant.

Thanks, Dave. I was really directing that to the moderators, hoping they had an answer. I think it is important to at least know why it isn't going into secure mode.

If you folks are using Chrome, it sounds like from Version 68 on they will mark all sites as not secure and that in order to not have this on your site the sites need an SSL Certificate added / built into it. Here are a couple of things I found about the "Not Secure" alerts. (by googling "why do I get the alert "not secure" on some sites):

https://developers.google.com/web/updat ... ecure-warn

https://dagmarmarketing.com/blog/how-to ... ng-chrome/ (a supposed fix is shown about 1/2 or 2/3 way down the page. Boring and slightly technical)

Hoping this helps some

Yooper1, I don't see any indication that you are a mod so I will assume not. The main thing is that theses pages are not secure and google Chrome is just making that plain to those that use them. In reality, there is probably a small chance that your data will be stolen but it is certainly a better feeling to know that your passwords and user names are being input into a secure, encrypted page that in a non-secure one. It looks like it may involve an upgrade and extra cost,as most things these days do. Was just wondering if that was the reason that this forum is running on an unsecure environment. Hoping someone that knows might respond.

In Safari on an iphone, for example, it won't say not secure but you will be missing the little padlock to the left of the site name. If there is not https: in front of the site address, then you are not on a secure site in explorer.

This is due to the fact that this site does not use an SSL certificate. Historically, these were only for sites that collected sensitive personal or financial transaction data, but a change was made recently where the internet consortium deemed it "required" for all sites to use SSL certification.

This requirement is more of a suggestion, however it is being promoted by browser developers.

Nothing has changed in regards to the forum application or database technology being used on this site.

It's something we can consider doing, but like most other things here it isn't free and requires at least some amount of effort to implement.

I'll see what I can do.

I did not insinuate that in any way and never will. I was unaware that only mods are allowed to reply in this forum. My error

My apologies, yooper1, that's not what I meant to imply at all. I was hoping for a response from one of the moderators like R13 so kindly just did. As far a I know, anyone can post. So sorry that it came across wrongly.

Thank you R13 for the update.
