I'm a big 41 fan, really want a 5.5 inch blued Vaquero on the old frame in 41 mag.

The old Vaquero large frame is an easy conversion with Ruger large frame blue .41 cyls and barrels around. Just need to start with a 6 1/2" barrel, cut off the front sight screw hole to 5 1/2" length, and install a Vaq front sight blade. $200 approx. in parts and minimal work. And you can offset that cost by selling the original Vaq barrel and cyl, unless you want to keep them.

Unless of course you want a custom Douglas barrel or some such. But as good as the one I did shot, I couldn't justify it. I had to for my 38-40 but there's no Ruger 38-40 barrels floating around.

Had mine back from Gallagher for about a month. He turned it around very quickly. I really love it and the work is top notch. The price was excellent and about half of what I was quoted by another smith mentioned here. This is before I made the grips for it.

When I first bought the gun that I was going to rob the frame from, the local gun shop said he could do it. When I finally forced him to give me back the 44 Mag Vaquero frame that was the donor, this is what it looked like.

You can see that John fixed that and his new roll mark looks factory. With case hardening by Turnbull

Had him turn the barrel to remove the billboard and the cylinder to remove the roll mark.

Shoots very, very well. That is 6 rounds of a 225 hardcast by me.

Not to take away from the .41 Mag in any way (I own many) but I have been thinking about doing this on a NV using the .41 Special. Thinking a 5 1/2" tube. Or maybe a shortly and "birds head" grip frame. I wish one of the distributors would jump in with something. Anyone listening?

Jason at Lipseys says no wildcats, must be saami listed. It looks like .41 mag or nothing. Don't get me wrong, I'm a .41spl booster, even got star-line to make the first run of brass, had to buy 50,000 rnds, paid for headstamp, too. I'd rather see a NV in .41spl than any other caliber.........

How about .401 Herters with .40S&W, 10MM, 10MM Mag, 38-40 cylinders...........

I'm pretty certain a .41 mag Vaquero is easily done by Ruger on either frame, just can't believe nobody can push them to do it.

I know I'm not Elmer Kieth, or Skeeter, or Bill, but I'm sure they would all have had no objection to this!!!!

My 38-40 Vaquero made by Bobby Tyler. Started out as a 45 "OM" Vaquero. New cylinder and a Colt barrel. Bighorn grips by Grasshorn; matching Bowie knife from Knives Ship Free. Leather work is de-constructed & re-constructed EPS leather; conchos are authentic Indian Head pennies.

Bobbie is doing an authentic 1892 Winnie, short rifle takedown for me right now. Engraving are Cherokee tribal designs.

Originally, conchos were Mexican 5 Centavo pieces.

Well..........
It's been pushed closer to five years now for this thread. I would like to pause and recognize the dozens of members here taking the time and brain matter to share thoughts on this subject of the "missing .41" from Ruger. Starting with the man who got Starline to make the .41 Special a reality in Brass.

I sent a 41 mag barrel to John Gallaghr and he is converting a 357 New Vaquero to 41 Mag for me. Pretty easy especially if you have the 41 barrel

There you go! Life is too short and the 41 is too easy to make, rather than waiting around for something that ain't gonna" happen anyway.

If all the members on this thread that want a 41 got together and got a volume quote from someone like Gallagher, you'd likely all have your gun in a year. He'd be happier too because instead of each gun being set up and machined for example, he could set up once and group the operations. Ream all 2 dozen (or whatever the #) cyls, set all barrels, even different lengths, etc.

I must be simple since I don't follow why a 41Mag on a mid size frame "can't occur".
41 is a SAAMI round, and they already make mid frames in 44Sp and 45C.

And then there are all those custom makers doing 41Mags on the mid frame.
Obviously they're idiots all.
