That is what I am working on, trying to figure out that ratio. Right now, with the numbers I ve recorded about 55/45 10 1/2 guns in the lead. I've seen supposed production numbers about different barrels lengths published somewhere, don't know where they came from though. First maxi's produced, which include all the low number guns are 10 1/2" Last ones out there, which were all produced in March of 1983 are 7 1/2" guns. I doubt that there are any guns out there that were actually produced in 1984. But if you have one that letters as such I'd like to know about it! You see, Ruger destroyed almost 5000 Maxi's. So there were only about 11,500 shipped out of a total production of around 16,314. Coogs.

I have two in my records that were: #60006409 101/2" 1983, and 60007802 71/2" 1984.

TSHOOTER.... prefix number 600 denotes first (and, unfortunately, the last) Blackhawk Maximum cylinder frame. It is a part of the full serial number; a hyphen separates it from the individual gun number.
Thus, your Maximums are properly expressed as:
* 600-06409 for the 10-1/2".
* 600-07802 for the 7-1/2".

The hyphen makes it much easier to read the number of the gun.

Here's mine purchased 12-23-1982 new, 10-1/2" Serial Number 600-02692. Used it in IHMSA Silhouette matches. Most accurate revolver I ever shot. Too bad Ruger didn't heed Elgin Gates and add 1/8" to the frame and cylinder. Only fired ammo made with Federal IHMSA .357 Maximum brass, the stuff head stamped with the Ram logo. It now resides in my safe along side some other great notions.

Prescut, I am not sure who is still producing loaded ammo but it will only be a custom shop. Remington does a seasonal run of brass, usually in the spring, I think. It is available at MidwayUSA.com. They are out of stock right now. Remington and Federal loaded ammo is available from time to time on the different forum sites but has a tendency to be a little pricey. Thanks for the number and enjoy your Max, Coogs.

One more serial number in for me. I am totally hooked on MAX. Reloading is a hoot.

A Ruger new model Blackhawk with 10" barrel. NIB and stunningly beautiful !
600 - 08855. It now has a light coat of the Renaissance Wax. The polish sparkles.
