I bought a Ruger Mark1 from someone today and the safety does not stay on. The spring and ball or plunger is missing in the safety, that keeps it locked in. Does anyone know where i can find replacement parts?

If you look carefully down into the safety detent ball hole you will likely see the spring. Generally the ball falls out when the safety is removed. It may have even fell way down inside the grip frame, just below the mainspring latch.

safetys' are usually stuff they consider 'factory replaced ONLY' (can you say liability...)
the small detent ball is 'stacked' ( pinched?) in place in the small hole and yes, there is a very tiny ,small spring under the ball..don;t know if we even have any left, as we've fixed lots of those over the years........

rugerguy, is it called a safety detent plunger? They have this part listed, and they have a safety detent spring listed for a mark 11 and mark111, but not for the mark1. is the spring the same?

should be the same, small round ball, as the MK I ( standard autos) have been discontinued for a LONG time now, they would not be listed,and if you have the gun apart, you can possibly send them the safety lever and ask for ir to be repaired....best to call and ask first,but we've seen it go the other way just sending the part,bad thing is if it gets lost,then you are out,soooo, a crap shoot...if they do list the parts for the MK II or III then just ask for one of them,see if they will send you one.............you just never know
No, I do not work for Ruger , we are retired and had owned three different shops over the years that did service and warranty repair work for various makers back in the 70's, to the mid 80's........

They list the plunger for the Mark1 and the spring for the Mark 11 and 111. Are the springs the same?

You want a Safety Detent Plunger (ball) # A02511, and Safety Detent Plunger Spring # A20200

The ball is not really a ball, rather it is a plunger with a tail on the bottom side and is curved on top to appear as a ball. The safety detent plunger ball actually looks like this:

Thanks for the info guys, ordered the parts. I had to order two plungers and springs to get my order to min. of $10.00. So if anyone else needs some let me know.

Save them. You may well lose one putting them in.

A little sticky grease helps hold it in place while you put the safety into the frame.
