Hey Guys,

I'm a fairly new gun owner. My SR9C is my first gun, I've got almost 3000 rounds through it in the last 9 months. I put a ghost trigger in it along with a heavier striker spring due to a rash of light strikes. (Before anyone mentions it I did clean the grease out of the striker pin area)

I wanted some opinions on something. A couple of weeks ago at the range the gentleman to my right politely asked to let him know when I was going to shoot because I was killing him over there with brass. ( this was indoors btw) I figured ok, no problem, whatever. Then yesterday at the same range one of the rangemasters was watching me and between magazines he asked me how long I've had the gun. He suggested that I might have a worn or weak recoil spring because I was slinging brass about 6 lanes over. He said it could be bad for the gun because the action could slam back against the stops hard....seems to make sense to me. When I field stripped it for cleaning I looked for anything obvious with the spring. Looked ok to me, but I'm still learning. I was thinking I'd call Ruger and run it by them, but I've never noticed anyone in here mention anything similar. More often people complain about the spring being too strong. Any wisdom you guys could impart would be appreciated.

Something's wrong. Normally the casings just loop out few feet. I like your idea about calling Ruger. Or maybe just order a new guiderod assembly (the recoil spring set and guide rod) -- they cost only $5 from Ruger's on-line parts site?

I would call Ruger- for the knowledge on repair, plus giving them the data that this is a problem. I think it's always best, evevn if you fix it yourself, to report it. Ruger needs to know so if necessary they can make adjustments in manufacturing.

I have the same pistol with only 500 rounds through it. It does the same long ejections. A couple of different times at the range the guy next to me has to wait for me to finish my mag. or he gets hit by my brass. You are not the only one.

Thanks, maybe this model tends to throw a bit farther. I don't have much of a frame of reference personally.

I called Ruger today and the CS rep consulted with a tech. The tech's response was to 'go with a lighter load' and asked what I was shooting. I told her I was shooting 147gr rounds. She recommended going with 115 or 124. My response was that I thought that just referred to the weight of the projectile, and she said no, that's grains of powder. I wasn't going to argue with her, but I was less than impressed. To her credit she called me back to clarify that I was right, but the tech explained to her that as the bullet gets heavier there is more powder, and therefore more kick. I'm not informed enough to deny that, but I'm going to find out.

I guess the bottom line is it may be normal for this gun, but I may buy a spring and guide pin just for peace of mind. Either that or do some more research on the loads and call Ruger back once more.

If it's not a +P round wouldn't the pressure be in a standard range?

Well I woulda thought your ejector ate it's Cheerios.
I know my S&W shot em out right into the top of my head, S&W adjusted, now they go out a few feet, and slightly to the rear. They did not change my ammo.
