Going to auction that has an El Dorado Model 17-4 .45 cal. SS finish.Told it was made in Chimney Rock N.C. Supposedly only 1000 made. Anybody have any info on these. Are they good guns, value?

The Chimney Rock marked El Dorado guns are very well made, & collectable. I do not think there was even 1000 of the model you mentioned made. In fact I knew the two gentleman who made these guns. I used to go to their shop & fondle many of the guns there. THey would custom mark serial numbers & such on a customers gun. If you can get it for under $1500,,,,,,, it's a steal.

Actually, you have to realize that at El Dorado guns,, they would put ANY serial number on your custom ordered gun as long as they hadn't used it yet on an identical gun. I spoke with Ben today,, and he has a true winner there.

Congratulations! You haver a fine single action that is more collectible every day. I own one almost identical to yours. I found it in a pawn shop in High Point NC several years ago. Its serial number has 3 letters (initials?) then a -1. It's very hard to set a value on these but I'd think it somewhere North of 1K.
