for me it was pretty easy I bought a springfield to hold me over til I could find the Ruger at a decent price. Now the springfield I bought has been superb for me and I love it but for me I want a Ruger I've waited for years for them to put out a 1911 style and I swore I'd own one. So if it's just the 1911 style jump on the Ria and don't look back and have fun. If it's a Ruger 1911 you want then you won't be satisfied until you have a Ruger so my advice get a 1911style that doesn't break the bank and sell trade or keep it when you find the Ruger.
Some people have to colt some only a smith will do some will only ride a harley some will only drive a chevy. There is plenty of different style 1911's out there you should be able to get what you want

I ride a Harley bought it in 2000 FXDWG, wouldn't trade it for a new one, its mine and its me.
Have Colt paras but now I have a Ruger, and its just like above.
Ruger just don't make no junk.
Lot of people would disagree with me, but I seriously beleive the Sr1911 will be the next Colt, that is mass produced.
Everybody wants one even the ones who say they don't.

One more thing, i beleive its the closest, thing to a colt thats been made in the last 25 yrs. Guess that puts all the rest out of contension.

I really don't if it's the next colt that everyone will want or not. But if you look how hard it is to get one now that should be a good indicator. I personally think the folks that pick it up now we'll be much happier about the price paid over those that wait. I've been a Ruger man since I was 12 that was 32 tears ago and I've prayed Ruger would come out with a 1911 for the last 20 I am very thankful I found one at a good price.
It probably helped that I've been lucky enough to shoot 2 different ones and each time I out shot my Springfield so I was already sold before I put one on lay away

No, not "Everybody" wants a SR1911 because some of us realy do like the origonal 1911AI configuration so much that we don't consider anything of the changes that's come along since to be an "improvement".
Now, if and when Ruger markets a copy of the 1911A1 that is as close as say, an RIA....then we'll revisit the prospect of Ruger becoming the next Colt of the "1911" world. Untill then though, Ruger still aint made a 1911, a 1911A1, or even a copy of Colt's Government Model......so to SOME of us, they aint even the hunt.

On the other hand, if I was wanting a fluffy "semi-custom" 45ACP SA pistol that would accept USGI magazines, the SR1911 would certainly be high-up on my list of possabilities....because as you said, "Ruger just don't make no junk".

Just saying that as she sits, the new Ruger can't possably be everything to everybody. And I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut that Ruger knows that too. Maybe in a year or two they'll offer something more suitable for the old dinosuars like me. .

DGW1949 is living proof as to what I was pointing out he is a colt man and only a colt will do or at least a copy that is so close you wouldn't be able to tell the difference from a glance.

I'm a Ruger guy and always will be. But not to prod to admit I like my springfield 1911. We are living in great times when there s so many options for us to choose from

I have a Springfield lowly GI model that I bought used for $400 shipped. It's the 3rd best shooting 1911 I own, behind two Gold Cups, and it has the absolute best trigger of ANY 1911 that I own. Wish it had better sights than the tiny GI combat sights. Don't really want to modify it.

Springfields are GREAT 1911's.

You are dern-close in your assessment.
Actualy, I'm a 1911A-1 man. Whichever company it was (or is) produced by is not revelent to me, so long as it made made from decent materials and the workmanship is up to par. It just happens that the one I presently own was made by Colt.
That does not however, mean that I'm stuck on the military version. The older Colt "Government Model" suits me just fine too, although I will admit to exchanging the Series-70 "finger bushing" for a solid bushing on the one's that I've had.
I could also make do with the present clone made by RIA, and actualy owned an SA-clone once. My first order of business with the SA was to get rid of it's silly "lockable" mainspring housing Ass'y and replace it with USGI parts. It shot well enough, and I probably would have kept it but someone came along later who wanted it worse than I did.

On the other end of the mule, I found out early on that I have no real use for extended controls, beavertails, hollowed-out hammers, special triggers, flared magwells, nor for "bumper pads" on my magizine(s). That is because I actualy tried some of those things way back when such "improvemnets" were becoming all the rage, but what I discovered instead was that FOR ME AND MY USES, either they didn't add one bit of utility to the gun, or in some cases, actualy caused other problems.

All that said though, I do realize that we aint the same and that each of us has our own requirements for our gun. I personaly believe that the 1911A1 was about all the improvement that the 1911 needed. But if the SR-1911 suits the next guy better, that's great too.

I WILL TELL YOU I HAVE PLAYED WITH MY RUGER FOR TWO DAYS NOW. TOOK IT APART PUT IT BACK TOGETHER AGAIN AND AGAIN, AND FRIENDS ITS ONE HELL OF A PISTOL FOR MSRP OF 799. AFTER PLAYING WITH IT I WOULD PAY 1000 IN A NEW YORK MINUTE.

Or he aint never seen a real 1911. Heck Rev, a 1911A1 aint even a 1911. Fact is, the two uses different frames, triggers, hammers, grip safeties, thumb safeties, main spring housings and sights.....which is way more than enough differences to warrant them needing different model designations, just for clarification.

Get's back to my point that it's so obvious that all SA revolvers aint Single Action Army's that no one calls a Ruger that....so why is it that everyone wants to call Ruger's new .45 autoloader a "1911" instead of using it's correct model name ....when clearly, Ruger don't make a 1911? ...... beats me.....

....But hey, at least we finaly got the whole Vaquero VS New Vaquero thing straight around here, huh?.....And how many years did that take?...5?...8?...10?
So maybe there's still hope. .

Same frame, they just do a bit more machine work........ All the mods you mention are why it got the "-A1" designation. That tells ME all I need to know about the gun.

The Rock Islands are excellent pistols, I can tell you that for sure.

I prefer the Ruger over the RIA for one huge reason - the Ruger is MADE IN THE USA. I'm also not a fan of the RIA's ambi safety and blacked-out combat sights.

No problem with the Ruger- I am just waiting for the prices to become more realistic. So I will just have to suffer with my RIA's and Springfields.
