Hit the range Saturday, for the first time this year, and got out all the new .22's that I've picked up since the fall (5.5" MkIII 22/45 slab side, SR22P, 10/22 and 10/22TD). Great day to be on the range. This is a little DNR range on the side of the road close to home that is usually packed on nice weekend days, but we managed to sneak in there during a lull and get our choice of shooting lane before the rest of the range filled up.
The standard 10/22 is the pink lam stock model that I gave my gf for Valentine's Day. Now she can't say anymore that she hasn't gotten to shoot it yet! Functioned flawlessly, but did have a little problem getting the mags (standard Ruger 10rd) to drop out easily. She still needs to figure out the slide lock.
10/22TD: not a problem. Barrel and sights aligned just right and sights right on, even though we were shooting at only at 15-20 yards. Beginning to figure out that I *might* want to look at better irons (for these eyes), but I'll wait on that for now.
22/45: This is my first Mark. I like it, but definitely want to try eliminating the mag safety. I just found it annoying to have to dig the mag out when I hit the release and it doesn't drop free. Also, as I'm new to Marks: is the bolt stop supposed to drop when I pull the bolt back, with a loaded magazine in, as the slide stop does on a centerfire pistol? It didn't for me; I had to manually push the bolt stop down.
SR22P: fun, fun to shoot. light and compact. Actually need to figure out my use for this gun. It's light and compact, yes, and probably as accurate as I can be with this platform, but...
Some have commented on the "backwards" safety on the SR22P, as a detriment to using it as a trainer. I handed my gf the 22/45 to try first, instructing her on the controls. Later, I handed her the SR22P, again showing her the controls. After showing her the safety, her first comment, unsolicited, was "that doesn't make sense; they should make it work the same way."
Just some food for thought.
edited to add: We were shooting CCI Blazers from a 525 bulk pack and didn't have a single issue.
