I have been so pleased with my Carpenter Technologies Ruger M77 in 222 Remington that I could not pass on acquiring a stainless Hawkeye in 222 Remington. A buy it now price of $500 (including shipping) for a NIB one was too tempting. I spoke with the Gun Broker seller, the gun had been sitting in their store for five years.

Here's the link to the GB auction. You need to log in to view the page.

I always watch certain auctions. Once in a while, I see a decent deal.

Gramps 51,
I had to find the right powder and bullet combination for my Carpenter gun. Once I did, accuracy really improved. I found that RL7 with a 40gr Nosler ballistic tip did the trick. Three shot group at 100 yards could be covered with a dime. I bought a better rest and should check accuracy again.

I beleive the Hawkeyes in 222 are an overrun for a foreign contract. Not too many around.

Thanks I will have to try that load I have found that compressed loads of imr 4895 with 50 gr winchester psp or sieara match kings work good in all my guns but the win bullets are not tough enough for cyotes

Gramps,

I also have a Browning stainless A-Bolt stalker in 222 Remington. It was a limited production run. I heard a rumor that Remington was going to come out with a limited run of stainless fluted model 700 CDL in 222 Remington.

Got my stainless Hawkeye in 222 Remington on Monday. Mounted the scope tonight and will sight it in this weekend. Hopefully the load I have worked up for my Carpenter rifle will work well with the Hawkeye.
