As the topic says, I am asking if any of you guys load lead bullets with Power Pistol powder? There is plenty of load data for jacketed bullets out there, but lead bullet load info is sorely lacking. I am looking for the following load data:
9mm 115 LRN
.45 230 LRN
and .357 158 LSWC
My idea is to reduce the load data for the jacketed bullets in the same weight bullet by 1 grain or so. What say you guys?

I use Power Pistol for lots of stuff.

I would send an email to Alliant telling them which bullets you are going to use. Ben Amonette is the guy who will probably respond. He's always been very helpful with supplying load data for Power Pistol that is not in their online data.

I use 6-6.5 grains under the 230 grain lead 45 bullet. 6.5 is a hardball equivalent.

I use 8.0 grains under a 158 gr. lswc in the 357.

In 9mm I use 5.4 grains under a 124 gr truncated cone plated bullet in 9mm. Should be fine to start there with the 115 grainer.

I have tried Power pistol with lead and I got leading in 45 acp and 45 Colt at the same velocity where I had not with other powders like Herco, HS-6 and 4227. PP may be ok with hard cast like 20 or so brinell, or gas checked bullets. Burns real hot-large muzzle flash. Works super with plated or jacketed though.

I like Power Pistol a lot for 9mm but for lead I use WSF or AA#7, Power Pistol tends to smoke with lead to a fair extreme.

45 ACP 22 LSWC - ok - Bullseye load better

44 SPC 255 LSWC - Cpl very good loads

45 Colt 255 LSWC - Cpl good loads

In the 44 SPC, PP is one of my hunting loads. Maybe the same eventually in 45 Colt.

9mm / 115g = 5.6g start

45 ACP / 230g = 6.6g start

357 Magnum / 158g = anywhere......

I used a pound of it in my 44 mid range loads..pretty good accuracy and no leading BUT it seemed noisier than comparable loads with TITEGROUP, HP38, PROMO or HERCO. (When you shoot 48+ rounds daily, you go for less expensive components.) Brian Pearce writes for HANDLOADER magazine and is a big fan of POWER PISTOL in 44s. He is based out of Boise Idaho area and the higher elevations might make a difference in performance.

pp is loud and has a very impressive flame . I have always been taught that loads for jacket can be used for lead but not always true the other way around. so far in 30 years of reloading that advice has never hurt me or blown up a gun. Also lyman has a great manual that deals with just lead and has lots of loads in almost every caliber

I was just out at the range last weekend using 7.0gr Power Pistol, 200gr S&S semi-wadcutter, WLP primers in a Ballester Rigaud. Very accurate and totally reliable with no harsh recoil of any kind.

I have about 20000 rds through my 9mm SP01 with 5.7 gr PP under a 125 LRN. Very accurate, slow to lead. Favorite round.

Power Pistol reminds me of Unique/Universal/W231/Bullseye in its ability to work well in so many cartridges with so many bullets. It continues to prove itself with its generally superb accuracy through varied velocity levels, easy metering, cleanliness, and economy.
'Faster' than HS6, 'slower' than those listed above, it occupies a sweet spot of versatility for handgun reloaders. It shines in accuracy in 9x19, velocity/accuracy in 40 S&W/10mm/ 45 ACP/45 Super, and might offer a 'best' in every revolver chambering in the 'medium' performance range.
It is certainly a worthwhile addition on every bench.

It is an excellent powder for the RCBS 45-270-SAA bullet in both 45AR and 45 Colt. If you have a 45ACP revolver capable of handling 45 ACP +P loads (e.g. recent S&W Model 625s) you will be very pleased with it. It can hit 885fps. It also works very will with that bullet in 45 Colt at mid level (20K psi) pressures, turning in over 1000fps. I recommend Handloader #251 and #246.

I have also had exceptional performance with it in 240-250gr cast bullet 44 Special loads in the Ruger/Lipsey mid-frame Blackhawk. See Handloader #260. If you haven't tried it in that or a S&W Model 24 or 624, I highly recommend it.
