It is a plant based string that in the end gets chopped up with the vines and tilled back into the fields.

And now, the plants energy is devoted to the growth of the cone, or flower.

Only the cone is used for beer flavoring. The rest of this huge plant is turned into mulch or silage once the hops are harvested. These hops are now close to harvest.

One of the largest growers in the Willamette Valley (Sod Buster Farms) started harvesting last night. They will go 24/7 for about 3-4 weeks now until they finish. Looks and smells like money. :) For you local guys---this field is just 2 miles south of the Wheatland Ferry, just 2-3 miles west of I-5 off the Brooks exit.

Those are healthy plants!

When I was young, we hunted pheasants in the hop fields.

They are now doing double duty by using the equipment to dry and bale hemp.
