Went on a hike this morning and took my oldest Smith 22. It's a 5 screw, made in '51, in very good condition. Even the grips are correctly numbered to the gun. Packed a couple boxes of vintage ammo just for show. Some 15 years ago I walked into one of my LGS's and it was priced at $319. On his best day, Bob Munden couldn't have grabbed it any faster than I did. She's a keeper.

Tom, that looks like a 4" K-22 rather than a Combat Masterpiece .22 - the barrel looks heavy rather than tapered. Am I wrong?

To clarify, they're all technically K-22s but the Target Masterpiece, mostly seen in 6" configuration and later in 8 3/8" had a heavier non-tapered barrel where the Combat Masterpiece had a tapered barrel. 4" non-tapered examples do exist in both .22 and .38, though they are relatively scarce.

Here are my K-22 pets - top is a 1952 K-22 bottom is a 1960 4-screw K-22 WMR. I'm nearly as addicted to vintage S&Ws as to Rugers .
