Just got my new Redhawk from Jack Huntington. Colt Anaconda barrel re-bored and rifled to 45. Kept the factory 6 shot cylinder.

Looks cool with the Colt barrel. If it were mine, I'd be wanting to get it bead blasted... but that's just me

jetray,

I like the way it looks. Those Colt barrels just have an appearance like no others.

But I'm wondering why you went to all the expense to have a Colt barrel rebored and installed. Was there something wrong with the Ruger barrel?

Joe

Thats an Anaconda barrel.

Well Joe, I had seen a conversion by Bowen on his web site. Custom 5 shot 454 on a Redhawk frame with a Anaconda barrel. Just loved the way it looked. So I found a Redhawk, Anaconda barrel and intended to send it to Bowen for the conversion. One hitch, about $2000 for the conversion. So I started to save.

In the mean time, in my surfing, I found that Jack Huntington did this type of conversion. I spoke with him and he suggested going with the 45 LC and keeping the factory cylinder. Keeping the 6 shot really cut down on the cost of fabricating a custom 5 shot cylinder. The 45 as you know can be loaded approaching/to the 454. For the size of game I will use it on, Elk the largest right now, it will be plenty. And Jack charged me $650.

Really, in answer to your question, it wouldn't have been a "custom" if I'd have kept the RH barrel.

Thanks all. I really like it too.

Ray.

YES!

This is what I'd love to see Ruger make (or an Alaskan with a 4" full shroud barrel)!

It'd be heavy, but man what a gun!

:D

the frame contours of the redhawk match the contours of the colt barrel perfectly
that combination makes a great looking gun
If I had the extra $$ to get all the parts I'd be happy having one in 44 mag

Jetray,

To my understanding, with a .45 Redhawk you really don't loose much to the .454, there isn't much difference in useful max pressure. Just use slugs that are seated out so they can't be chambered in any other .45's. There is information out there. That is very nice.

Just sent off for some 320 gr. LBT Long Nose bullets from Montana Bullet works to work up some loads for it. I'll post some pics in a few weeks of how they shoot.

Thanks again.

There was a Group Buy on Castboolits for a Ruger only 328 gr .45 slug, it might still be open. Miha's molds are works of art.
